ive read a few places...guys are running el34 power tubes in the tourmaster amps with great results.

im a fan of el34 sound, and would love to hear how they sound in this amp....

is it a myth?? or can it be done safely.

talk about it.

Bruce posted a while back that you can't put EL34 type tubes in a Tourmaster if you want the power grid
feature to work. All the power settings are calibrated for 6L6 family tubes, like 5881s.
Not sure if it will damage the grid, but will definitely not work right.

Oops... I guess I feels stupid now.
I wonder what the scoop is though.

Bruce???

so it'll still work in 100 watt or half power mode? just not individual grid settings?

i'd love to hear how it voices up with el34's in it.

might save me having to buy an el34 amp (stiletto) and just go straight for the mark v to satisfy my gas.

someone on craigslist wants to trade me a lonestar special for the tourmaster.

im thinking..um.....no!

There is somewhat of a longer explanation about this, but to answer the initial question, yes you can use them. However, you will only be able to use the amp in the 100 watt setting. The switches on the back will work, but the bias for the tubes will be wrong, and I can't recommend you doing it.

You can get a used Tourmaster for 600-700 bucks. A trade for an LSS would be a good one, from a financial aspect.
