Tourmaster Or M4 w/ 2 Mods?

Indoor Storm sells the M4 w/ 2 mods for about $1200. Musiciansfriend is giving $150 rebates on orders over $1000 until 2/26 so that drops the TM to about $1250.

I like the fact that the TM is 4 channels with independent tone controls on each channel and the power grid is a great feature. Of course the M4 gives the potential for 4 mods (even though the tone controls are shared on each).

What would you do?

BTW, my other amps are Mesa Road King II, Mesa Studio Pre and 50/50 and a Carvin Legacy (which I'm selling to raise money for the Egnater.).

Thanks.

Dave

I would go M4 with BMan and SL2 or EG5 modules provided you have a really good power amp. But then again, I havent played a Tourmaster yet.

See that's the thing. I've played a TM but not anything else from Egnater. I do have a Mesa 50/50 that I really like so if I get an M4, I'd probably use that at least to start.

Go M4..although the Tourmaster is clearly going to be a winner and sounds like a great amp...nothing (*NOTHING!*) beats the ability to completely switch a pre-amp module out

/me patiently awaits the Egnater power amp with the power grid features of Tourmaster and tube swapping/channel/midi capabilities of the Randall RT2/50 :D

/me acts like beavis..... boioioioioioioioioioioioiong ;)

+1 on that one. That type of power amp w/ the ability to use the multiple sets of power tubes ala mod 100 and the power grid features all in one power amp would be the shiznit!

i want one!!!! (as long as it fits in 2 rack spaces ;)....

Are you running the M4 in the loop of that Randall head in your Avatar?

Yessireeebob! Works like a charm. If I'd known about the E2, I probably would have waited..although it does rock having 6 modules on hand even if I do need an A/B-Y box now :D

If already you like the Tourmaster you are pretty much guaranteed to love the modular line. The modular stuff is built with same focus on tone but with premium parts in Detroit Rock City by Team Eggie.

Either way you'll probably be happy, but with the modular system you have options down the line... For example, maybe later you want to switch to a head? Then you just get an unloaded MOD 50 and use all of your modules with it.

I recommend the Modular series like Matt said for the options. I got the M4 first to use w/ my VHT 2/90/2, and hopefully this week if not next I'll have a Mod50 in my arsenal too. Its so darn nice to be able to take the tone I love, and use them in both rigs interchangeably. That's something you just don't get w/ the Tourmaster, albeit it has awesome tones too ;).

I just can't have "just 4 tones" ;)

How do you guys work around the fact that the 2 channel mods share tone controls. The only independent controls are gain and volume. It's more like being able to have a boost mode rather than a true 2nd channel with separate EQ. I wonder if they used the same small knobs and as the gain and volume, and then maybe staggered the pots, they could fit separate EQ on each mod.

another M4 vote.

It's a work of art, and guaranteed to be a holy grail one of these days. .

Dave:

Each module has its own EQ (like the EG5, SL2, etc). But the channels w/in a module (channels A and B) share an EQ. Egnater has done a SUPERB job dialing these in, and I have never had a problem w/ sharing EQ across the channels. They have developed 2 channels that are very versatile for each module. The T/D, the twin sounds very glassy with a high headroom for cleanliness ;), and the D channel gets dirty quick. But since they've dialed in the sounds SOOOO well, all modules sound good at 12 o'clock noon on the EQ. Each module also has a bright switch w/ 3 positions and a bass switch w/ 3 positions. I personally get a TON of tones from these modules, and out of the box at high noon, these modules rip the competition. You will NOT have problems w/ the shared EQ per module.

Hope that helps :).

It does. Thanks.

I'm thinking of calling in an order today and at least getting on the list.
