 OK so I talk my buddy into a 4212 Tourmaster. He loves my sound on my 4212 takes my advice and grabs one. We play a gig and everybody's happy.

He calls me up a few days after and says the amp has a terrible sound all of the sudden. So wanting to keep the Egnater name in the high regard (and my name) I rush over take a listen it sounds great for 10 minutes then here comes the scratchy, squeeeeeling, noises. Damn.......

I yank the back off and find original Egnater tubes. I then start tapping tubes and tada :D , I get a whole lot of noises when tapping. So we decide to give her some new juice and order a complete new set of Tung sols (Power and Pre's from Doug's Tubes) like Nate put in mine after he serviced it.

We put the new set in and checked bias and plugged in and it sounded great on ch 1 great on ch 2
and waaaaay low volume on ch 3 and ch 4.

So check all the tubes and settings.
Back to ch 1, sounds loud and great
Back to ch 2 sounds loud and great
And once again.....ch 3 very low volume ch 4 very low volume.

So I give Nate a call he says check v2 and v4 pre's. We do the process of elimination switching v2 and v4 with the old tubes and find V4 to be the culprit.

So we call Doug tell him we apparently got a bad tube and that we had talked to Egnater eliminated what Nate said and he very willing helped us out to exchange with a new tube. Doug was somewhat apprehensive though.
We sent him back the APPARENTLY BAD V4 Tung sol.

Thursday:
We receive the new V4 Tung sol from Doug and slide it in the V4 slot and tada  sounds great on all channels....
Ahhhh problamo solved..............

Friday:
Until Friday night turn her on he goes to jam and huh?????....ch 3 and ch 4 are back to no volume!! :aww:
This amp is in a studio and has never been gigged out since the new tube change.
So we slap in the old original V4 tube and it comes back to normal volume on ch 3 and ch 4....????

Now why did it work then stop a second time over night???? I doubt Doug sent a 1st bad tube let alone a 2nd bad tube
What is happening??????????

because v4 is a cathode follower position, and, as doug should've told you, tung sols routinely fail in this slot.

salesman error....and, NATE should've known this too and told you.

tung sols ARE NOT meant for this position in this amp, and honestly, there should just be a sticky warning thread about the tung sol and sovtek LPS in this v4 slot.....

and, just for shits and giggles, these new sensor or whatever they are current production tung sols, while being hailed for their tone, also routinely fail from what i can tell, at a rate of about 1/5 or so...so be careful there.

i've had 3 bad ones, and one good one so far..and have read other accounts of them being particularly shite in cathode slot of a lot of different amps.

stick with the chinese ones, and you should be fine with them in that slot.
