Tourmaster Questions

Recently picked up a 4100 head at Guitar Center. Got it home and it had a blown 1.6 amp fuse in it. The spare was also blown and it too was a 1.6 amp fuse. ??? I put a 5 amp slo-blo in and so far so good.

Here's the question...

I had heard that some of the early Tourmasters had bad tubes in them and that was causing blown fuses. I took notice that the unit I brought home was slighly different than another unit on the floor. The effects loop section on the rear of the two heads had different wording in them. The one I brought home is labeled Loop Assign , Pedal, All On, etc.. The other unit was worded Remote Off, Master, etc.. Wasn't sure if that was an indicator if one was of an earlier run and possibly had the bad tubes??

I would drive it back and get some tubes and fuses,I can't believe they sold it like that

Was thinking the same thing. Hated to go for new tubes unless it was really needed though.

Anybody from Egnater have any feedback on this??

Jeff, the 1.6 fuse was in the mains the spare was also blown and was a 1.6 as well. I replaced it with a 5 amp fuse and it has been fine since then but I have not played it hard.

5 amp for a 1.6 could be a hazard and void warranty,no??

Yes.

OK. Now I'm confused. What is the correct fuse? I must be mis-reading the back of the head. I thought it says to use a 5asb fuse for 120V and a 2.5asb for 220.

From your post, you said you replaced a 1.6a fuse for a 5a fuse.Does the amp itself say 5a?And if it did, what was a 1.6 amp fuse doing in there, cause that's what it would do is blow.

Just read the manual on the tourmaster and it says 5a slo blo 100/120.So what was a 1.6 amp fuse doing in there  ?That's why they were blown...............Your good

I have no idea how the 1.6 amp fuse's wound up in the amp. Only two possiblities that I can think of. Either the factory installed the wrong fuses and the "wizards" at the store didn't catch it when it kept blowing fuses, or the head blew the 5 amp fuses and the store threw in the dimensionally correct fuse without looking at the actual requirements. My concern is if the head did indeed blow the 5amp fuses it must have an issue that has not shown up for me. This scenerio led to (my question) about the vintage of the amp and the bad tubes.

I was never asking a question about the correct fuse and if using a lower amp fuse than called for would cause that fuse to blow.

 I would imagine it's gonna be fine, especially after you put the correct fuse in there and have had no issues.

your fine...yes it is a 5a. Why it had a 1.6 is beyond me. 2.5 would be for Europe. So it makes no sense. Just got a wrong fuse put in it.

Probably swapped out by somebody from G.C with a G.E.D. that's a dumb A.S.S.

I have run into these people :D

I promise the amp left with a 5 amp fuse installed. What probably happened is that someone stole the fuse holder(happens way too often at GC) and they took one from a Rebel which uses a 1.6a fuse. All is good now.
