Have had my 67" Yba-1 for awhile now and have only changed out the pots for volume I and volume II.

It brought the amp right into the sweet spot and really sounds like a "guitar' amp now. However, it sounds a little 'immediate' even with my Alnico II pups in my les paul. It feels like it could certainly use a sag factor, perhaps in the way of a genuine tube rectifier.

As you can see from the pic, it already has a place for a tube rectifier and the power transformer has a cauterized 5v filament tap inside.

But as I understand, the filter caps must be lower in value as not to interfere or choke out the output. The amp has the original Mallory cap can 40 uf's (marshall mount) and the "dynamite stick" 80uf inside so it could use a cap job anyway.

I am not an audio engineer so I have no idea how or what to calculate in order to get the right amount of farad value to allow the tube rectifier to do its' job.

Is there someone here who has experience in retrofitting an amp to tube rec. before?
