winged c is the finest tube you can buy and killer sounding!

Dave ,

Sorry you didnt end up digging the tubes, I will say they have there place but they are not for everyone. Including myself. And I agree 100% I must always try things myself, You can't always believe what you hear ... But it's all good! MORE TOYS !

told you. :poke:

don't blaim 77's, just blaim JJ!
 I don't like anything in power tubes jj does. The only 2 times I have ever had an amp fail me, in otherwords go out while in the middle of a song in a set were both tube failures and JJ's both times. :( I like the JJ pre amp tubes but I think the JJ power tubes just suck. JJ can make the tiny toys but they should leave the big toys to the big boys.

never tried the KT77's but always wanted to. As for JJ's, i guess i'm of the opinion that JJ power el34's are VERY reliable and durable in my amps. i love them and have had zero problems with them. Maybe they sound like shit in high gain amps though. i do like the 'winged" c's for humbucking metal tones.

Really? I have never been a fan of 6550's, but I may have to try a quad. I was thinking about popping in a quad of GE 6CA7 big bottles... like I did with the Jose'. I really like the Winged C's though.

So how was the tone different fron the EL34's vs 6550's? I know the differences, but I am curious what you guys thought and did you stay with the 6550's... ;)

I wont change from the 6550s.. can switch bias with a three way switch mark put in.. 6550 or el34 or Hot El34/Cold6550. so its an easy comparison for me.

probably can't say anyting you don't already know.. bigger headroom, a little punchier, bigger bottom for tuned down, a little less in the mids, which I can add back as you know,, top end sizzle that sets it for me. I can run the depth almost all the way open and its a nice fill. If you where wanting to added bottom ( like the kt77's would a little) then I would think you would like 6550's. The tung-sol seems smoother than the Svel's -c-'s.. most musical by quite a difference to me. I am using Scumbacks M75/h75's.. this combo brings out the vintage marshall tone yet can go into the pissed " meaner" sounds like Dawnofdream97 said.

or not try them!! dang! them went up a bit.. but ya gotta admit they are pretty

Hmmm... I run KT-77's in my Aldrich and think it sounds great. Though I must admit I have been itching to try some Winged C's in the amp.

If someone will loan me a set I will do a comparison. :D No tube money right now :(

The Winged C's will flat out kill the KT-77's in the Aldrich. I found the Winged C's were far and away the best powertube for use in the Camerons that i owned, they really bring the amps to life!!
