After playing for over 20 years through the same v30 cab I tried some greenbacks today with my Herbert. I must say I realy like the combo with v30s' and greenbacks. It' seems to be a common combo. I like the extra low/mid range they add and that early breakup is a lot warmer sounding than v30s'.

I´ve had this combo. It was very nice. But I did not like the fact to have a 180W amp on a 100W cab. So I get another two v30´s.

If I use a X pattern I'd have 2x V30s'= 120w and 2x Grennbacks=50w, total= 170w cab. I think that would be petty safe considering I'd never go over half volume on the Herbert. Besides I've got a Bogner 2x12 which I've used quite a lot with no problems which is rated at 120w.

Be careful mixing speakers of different wattage.

I need 2 8ohm greenbacks if anyone has 2. I have 2 16ohm they won't work with my Diezel amp.

Why do you need to be carefull?

Well, first of all the efficiency of the Greenback is not quite as high, meaning that the Greenback will get "lost" compared to the V30s, and I remember reading that the cab power handling is determined by the following equation:

Cab Power Handling= power handling of weakest speaker * the number of speakers

So basically, even though nominally you are running a "170" watt cab, in reality it's more like 50 watts. So I would be very careful running a Herbert through that cab.

Who told you that?

You can´t add watt´s! You have to take the watt´s from the less watt speakers and add them. Ask the tech´s. Your v30 will stay safe but you can blow your greenies. So you have to calculate the v30 as 25W speakers, because the lowest speakers in the cab are 25W. The v30´s won´t do the job for the greenies, that´s impossible. They are still 25W.

Your calculation is the same as somebody would say that 100W amp is twice as loud as a 50W. And we all know that it´s not.

A few month ago i bought a H&K 4x12 with Greenbacks because it sounds more "open" and not as agressive as my Diezel 4x12 FL. So i use the Greenback loaded cab for funk/rock and the Diezel cab for metall/hardcore.

This "rough-mix"-clips in the player are recorded with the greenback cab (the other songs are old stuff, no Diezel-sounds):

What ToneFreeq89 wrote!

Put just a bit more clearly: Cab Power Handling = (power handling of weakest speaker) * (the number of weakest speakers)
