Trying to decide...

between having Jeff mod my T/D into a twin or a Deluxe module. When I first got my Mod50 about 6 months ago, I immediately fell in love with the twin channel and how big and full it sounded. My issue is that when I get "that" sound on the twin side, I like the deluxe side less. It felt too muddy for me. Recently, I have been running the Deluxe channel a little hotter, and using that as my main clean sound, because it responds to my Top Boos in a Can so well. It's almost like having a three channel amp all in one channel of a module. Having read many posts about the Twin. Deluxe, and T/D modules, I wanted to get your guys opinions about the difference between the two. I like having a little grit in my clean sound, but I still want it to be somewhat tight. Is the dual Deluxe module able to get that great chimey sound that the twin gets, but maybe a little grittier?

Thanks,
Kyle

Kyle,

I had the T/D and still have the DLX module. To me the T/D has a little more chime in the A channel than the DLX. It also has more "bounce" in the feel due to the dip in the midrange. The A channel on the DLX has more honk in the midrange, just like a real Deluxe. Because of that it's not as pristine a clean but it's still a very nice clean sound.

The B channel on the T/D is very different from the DLX. The T/D's Deluxe side will overdrive a lot more than the DLX modules B channel. I personally liked that. But the T/D does get muddy too when you push the B channel. Especially if you EQ it for a great clean sound on the A channel. Kind of a compromise, but the T/D is a great module.

What I get out of my DLX is a nice clean on A, and a pushed clean that is only gritty with humbuckers. With a strat or tele it's perfect for a country "bark" for chickin' pickin' stuff.
Like a good clean sound with a little compression on the front end. Hope that helps.

What he said! I feel the same way. I LOVE my DLX. I've tried two T/D's next to my DLX, and it just has some major mojo!!! :)

Thanks guys. Maybe I'll just wait and get a Deluxe when I get the E2 when it comes out. :D

You can always get the T/D modded to a DLX too.
