Hey guys this is my first post. Can someone tell me what the tube layout is on the back of the M4 chassis? I have an earlier single channel model with the FX loop. I've had it for about 6 years and I have never replaced the tubes in the chassis. Isn't one of them the first gain stage for all of the modules? I'm looking for something that may saturate a little be but remain tight. I have always had a little trouble getting along with the higher gain modules. Thanks!

I believe the tube that is closest to the input jack is your V1 input tube.

This tube doesn't saturate at all, but the signal does pass thru, so any inherent tonal qualities in that tube will be passed along to your modules V1 and V2 tubes.

So choosing a tube that is loud, tight, and clean will deliver a solid signal to your modules.

I've had great luck in my Mod50 with some NOS tubes, they seem to add some sparkle and punch to my tone.

I recently played the Tourmaster and sadly thought that it sounded better than my M4/Marshall 9200 setup. I only say sadly because I don't want to buy more gear. Before I decide if I want to sell it I figure I can replace a few tubes and the cable between the preamp power amp and see if things improve.

i think it would sound a lot better with the randall rt 2/50 power amp

I agree. The M4 w/ the RT2/50 is by far my favorite setup w/ the M4. I've owned tons of power amps man...and the 9200 is a great one...but I personally like the RT2/50 better.

The Marshall 9100/9200 isn't a really good poweramp imo.
Personally like the VHT 2:50:2, M/B 2:90 and M/B 2:100 way better!
