Tube rolling in XTC 20th

what do you guys like 12ax7 wise??
Ive noticed that jj or tungsol or ei really effect the gain saturation a lil to much:(
what do you guys like? :scared:
 
Been there, done that, and bottom line for me - and I know several people here will attest to this statement... When it comes to Bogners, especially the 20thA XTC, top-drawer Chinese, Baby.... All the way. 12AX7B or C grade, no better out there for the true-chew of a killer Bogner head :thumbsup:

I agree. Don't forget about the Gold Lion KT77. Kicks ass. Did you notice Mo how much better they get with some break in. They open up and that GL77 presence kicks in. No other power tube I have tried has a presence like these.Very unique and dimensional.
 
i kinda thought that was what was gonna end up in there

I agree. Don't forget about the Gold Lion KT77. Kicks ass. Did you notice Mo how much better they get with some break in. They open up and that GL77 presence kicks in. No other power tube I have tried has a presence like these.Very unique and dimensional.

Dude. I owe ya. The GL77s are absolutely incredible. There's simply no going back - they took perfection and polished it up even more. Hard to believe, but ya, the Gold Lions in this amp are SOLID gold. Presence shimmers, but moreso, the musicality of the notes is just that much more. I'm so mega-fanboi about the 20thA head, I didn't think it could get better - but the KT77s are just awesome. Ya man, thanks again :thumbsup:

Back to the OP, regardless of the powertubes, even though, as above, if you're playing through a 20thA loaded with EL34s the GL-KT77s are just WOW, stick with the Chinese/Shuguang 12AX7B or C model pre's and you'll be stoked. One thing about the Bogner gain cascade is that ONE preamp tube can change everything, and not always for the better - in fact - rarely. Reinhold built the sound around Chinese pre's due to the fact they have great gain, decent noise floor, are readily available, consistent and cheap. Simple.

I tried a set of all 12axc 8th gen and uts back in better teritory also put an ei in front.. Sounds much better i have the 6l6 version and Im waiting on my sed's in the mail
