Hi all,

Was hoping for some help. Wanted to try some 6L6's in my Herbert. I was able to get some Groove Tube 6L6R-D (Russians) in a pair, and a quartet of 6L6C-Q (Chinese). They make reference to 5881's on the tubes, which has a different bias point than the "6L6". I'm not sure which way to go. I usually use the EL 34's, so I'm afraid I'm a bit confused. Any help would be much appreciated!

Well 6L6 will sound more open with an emphasis on the higher and lower frequencies.
You'll lose the mid frequency bite that EL34's have but you'll have nicer cleans.

My original post wasn't very clear, I apologize.

What I'm looking for (I guess) is why these tubes that are "6l6" labeled from groove tubes, make reference to the fact they are 5881's on the tube itself.

My question was more along the lines of which bias to use per pair, the 6l6 at 60-70mA or the 5881 at 50mA.

Sorry for the lack of clarity! Any help is appreciated, I don't know much about 6l6 or 5881 tube types.
