Without Herr Peter coming down on me for being old school and using 6550's in my VH4S, I know there are a few cats out there using 'em - Pauly, etc - and I'd like to know who's used the Tung Sols over the =C= SED's?? JUST out of curiosity, that's all...

I'm tempted to try a quad out just for shitz'n'giggles...

Peace

I have them on my Mako MAK2 and nothing bad to say. Seems to be reliable and sound is good. Might try them in my VH4 next time I change tubes.

figured id chime in...

ive tried the Tung Sol 6550s. Didnt like them one bit. Seemed very "unmusical" to me compared to the SEDs. If that makes any sense!

Thanks Gents!! Ya, although they're raved about as beng well built, excellent sounding tubes - I know a LOT of it has to do with the amp itself... Diezel's are an odd bunch - just when ya think a tube is the bomb because it works so well in 'other' amps, you try it in the Diezel and it's just not the same...

I think I'll stick with =C= just because hey, I know what they sound like and I know they've treated me really well. I'll be going with a new TAD7025S or Preferred Series 7025S in V1, then Shuguang B's for the rest... Probably bias a bit hotter (you'll be proud Pauly!!) up around 45mA or thereabouts. Hoping to get a better crisper clean from Ch.1 (not that the amp doesn't deliver, my tubes are just getting tired) and retain all that juicy gain goodness on the rest of the circuits!! :D

Cheers,
V.
