Tung Sols Cutting Module Volume??

I have been trying to run Tung Sol 12AX7s in my T/D and VX, but I keep getting this weird issue where the Tung Sols cut the volume of the modules way down. Why would this be happening? It's not a minor volume cut either, it's pretty drastic. I have 4 Tung Sols, and I have tried different combinations of the 4, thinking maybe I had a bad tube or something, but no luck. Surely all 4 tubes can't be bad! It doesn't seem like a diff 12AX7 should cut the volume that much.

Thanks
Rick

Hmmmmm., interesting, I'm getting an Mod 50 this week and was planning all types of tube switching, I will try my Tung Sol's and let you know if there's any noise reduction. That's weird, it should have no effect at all.

Yeah, I know several of the guys on the board here have said they are using Tung Sols in the T/D and VX specifically, so it's weird. Makes me think the tubes are bad, but seriously....4 bad tubes, all brand new??

I have ahad a lot of trouble with tung sols lately.

Loss of volume and weak, thin tone.

Having used a bunch of them in the past with great success, I am wondering if the current batch floating around has some issues.

Same here. I had great luck with the first few I bought when they first came out. Just the past few weeks, I ordered two and both went bad within minutes of playing. Sent them back for two new one's and the very same thing happened. Not sure what the deal is, but it's very disappointing. I think your odds are better to get them from Doug at dougstubes.com or Mike at kcanostubes.com. I did not get these bad one's from them.......lessons learned.

I felt the same way.....no way could they all be bad......well, they were!!

this is really sad and scary, as I love the TungSol 12ax7's. I use them a lot in the modules / mod50 / m4. Glad I bought a fair amount of extras at first. But we'll have to see what happens in a year or two when I need to replace the tubes in my M4 / Mod50.

Bummer. Luckily I bought mine from my local guitar tech, so I should be able to take them back with no prob.

I had heard somewhere that Tung Sol was recently bought by another company. Not sure what "recently" meant, but I wonder if there is a correlation..... :(

FWIW, I bought 5 Tung-Sol 12AX7's from Tube Depot last month and over the course of 2 weeks of testing, 4 out of the 5 turned out to be defective!
Same symptom--volume drop.

I sent them back and their tech called me and said only one side of the tube was actually working on them...

They replaced them, but I still had to pay all the return shipping, which sucked since there were 2 separate returns--I'll probably never order from them again.

I lost 2/5 Tung-sols within first few days....got 2 replaced and one of those has gone already..same symptom...one side of tube looks like it's burned up (very discoloured flashing for a tube so early in it's life)

Looks like the moral of the story is " stay away from Tung Sol reissues for nop"

Kind of a shame...I really like these tubes in certain amps.

I've experienced the same thing.
Bought 6 from The Tube Store and 4 of the 6 were really noisy.
They exchanged them for EH's and they work great.

Out of curiosity, has anyone tried the "bad" Tung Sols in non-Eggie amp? Could there be something about the combination of these tubes and the Eggies that makes them do this? Just wondering, because it seems really strange there would be so many bad tubes floating around??/
