Tweaker 15 Pre Amp Tubes - what does each do?

Just got a used Tweaked. Wonderful amp. Question: what do each of the 3 pre amps do? If I wanted to get a saturated, higher gain voicing which tubes could I look at swapping?

Hi Woody_in_MN,

According to the manual, V1 is the first stage preamp, V2 is the loop, and V3 is the PI. V2 is in the circuit even if you don't use the loop. So, V1 would have the most impact on your tone, then V2, changing both of these for the most impact. For V3 (PI), putting a lower gain tube here can increase the headroom. Nothing wrong with changing all three for the most change. I like Tung Sol 12AX7s in all three positions for a warm/smooth distortion, and maybe JJ 12AX7s in all three positions for a more edgy/crunchy distortion. :thumbsup:
