Tweaker 40 problems (PT most likely)

So, I actually have one of my buddy's Tweaker 40 because I'm helping him sort out some issues. He got it used on ebay so there's no warranty as far as I know.

The amp is popping the mains fuse (3.1A). Tubes all pulled, and I even disconnected all of the secondary outputs: still popping the fuse. So, points toward PT which I google searched on the internet and apparently its not all that uncommon. Now it's saturday and I'm going to send an email to egnater with the following questions, but if there's anyone here that can answer these I'd love to know.

1. Anyone have a tweaker 40 schematic?
2. Anyone know where to get a replacement PT? I found a drop in replacement from Mercury Magnetics for 160, but I'd like to know how much an OEM replacment costs.

1. No one has one except for Egnater certified techs. If you email Bruce, he may send you one without component values. I know he's done this for others in the past on here.

2. I would imagine based on threads here that OEM will be a lot more than MM. Do not know for certain though. Email Nate and I'm sure he could give you a price.

Just wanted to update this thread as multiple emails have been sent to Nate at Egnater over the past week and change and he hasn't gotten back to me. I was hoping the stories of their customer service were a little over exaggerated, but it's not looking good yet. I might just order the MM tranny so that I don't have to deal with Egnater.

+1 MM, Good choice or bend over and wait for the dry F N from Dregnater:thumbsdown:

Well, I figured I'd update this. After plenty of emails to egnater and calling them about 4 times I got nothing. Went with MM. The guys there (I think Patrick is there technical support guy) have awesome customer service, and they make a great product at a fair price. Tweaker 40 is a pretty nice sounding amp with the MM PT in there though. I'll say that much.

So, I'd reccomend Mercury to anyone regardless of amp make/model at this point.

These CS threads are becoming all too common. Glad your amp is back up and running. Sorry to hear the Egnater camp ignored yet another CS request.

Experienced the same problem "power chord" fuse blew after 60 days of in home - never moved use. Replaced and blew again. Tried w/o tubes blew again.
House lights dimmed. Same song everyone is singing great sound, many quality issues and customer service that takes it time to get back to you.
Anyone further along then me on getting any bit of satisfaction to similar problem please post.-Thanks

New??? Same guy that never got back to me last September 2012.

Soooo, got all excited, emailed josh last monday(march4) and, drum roll please.. Da da -NOTHING!

Bad joke..

I am surprised. He has been very diligent about answering all calls and emails. Please email me at begnater@aol.com or phone josh@ 1-877-egnater.

I have the same issue with my one-year old Tweaker 40 (which I loved until last Saturday's gig). Turned amp on and fuse popped. Didn't have a spare amp with me (should I have to?). I've had Fenders and Boogies last 20 - 25 years with no issues (and not so gentle handling)

Can someone tell me what the fuse value is for the Mains fuse? My amp is in USA running on 110. It's not in the manual and I actually can't read it on the fuse.

I'd like to get this working before my next gig, this Tweaker 40 and cab is the best sound I've ever had.

Are there any authorized warranty repair places in the Hartford, CT area?

It's posted on the back above the eic.
You should have spares of everything at every engagement. It's a sign of professionalism.
The PAST is no indicator of the FUTURE..

+1 for a good old solid state backup... (I own a tweaker 15 and 40 with no issues) also a blackheart valve.. but I still have the old b52 just in case.. read the next post about my tweaker 40 taking a shit and the terrible customer support

I have a tweaker 40 (bought used) and the power transformer also died.. Egnator will not repair it cuz it isn't a warranted issue.. This is real shitty customer service.. especially since this is a known issue with these amps. I have to order one 3rd party transformer (mercury magnetics $176 total) and repair it myself... I have had 2 peavey amps in my history that were nowhere near under warrantee when they crapped out.. I had to pay shipping both ways but they fixed the amps for free... That's what I call customer service and standing behind their products.. not the "Sux being you" attitude I got from Egnator .. I'll get this one fixed but will never buy another egnator product ever again. (great amp but if you cant get it fixed if something goes wrong what good is it really?..This refusing to repair their amps when they break speaks volumes of what they actually think of their products.
