Hi....My name is Jess. I just purchased a Tweaker 88 and I love everything about this amp except for the KT88's. I would love to know if 1....
The Tweaker 88 can run with EL34's and or 6L6's in the power stage?
2...What sort of mods would need to be done?
And 3...Would this sound ok???..

I love the sound of EL34 and 6L6's breakup in distortion tones, for me it's the right tone. The Egnater Tweaker 88 has everything feature wise That I'm looking for in an amp,I just want it to sound more like the 40. I do realize that converting to 6L6/EL34 will bring the overall wattage output of the amp roughly around 50 watts, which is very cool by me..:) So having 6L6's or EL34's fitted Would love to see how this sounds, I'm hoping AMAZING...:)..

Heaps of thanks in advance.

Cheers Jess

Sorry , one more thing....
Where can I download a Schematic for the Tweaker 88???..

Thanks again..
Jess

Bruce responded to this question before (can't find the link) maybe it was an e-mail to me(not sure) any way, he said, you can't run those other tubes. The plate voltage on the tweaker 88 is close to 600 volts, so only use KT88. Sorry for the bad news. I'm an el34 marshall guy and love the KT88's. I do find the Tweaker 88 a little dark with a lot of low end but, I've been able to still dial in what I want. good luck keep tweaking it may be in there for you.

You probably should have went with a Renegade if you wanted to swap out power tubes. I'm running KT88s (dirt) AND 6L6s (clean) in mine and it sounds awesome!

Thanks for that. I certainly didn't think it would be that simple. So is there a mod to lower the plate voltage?. The reason I went with the Tweaker 88 is that it has all of the features I want except for the KT88's. It's not that I don't like the tone from the kt88's It's just that I thought that this would be fairly do-able with a few mods here and there, I really think this amp would be incredible.....There must be a way...:)

I would think it's possible but, I wouldn't have a clue, as to what to do. I don't think you'll find much help here with mods, sorry to say. I have asked for schematics for my egnaters and found, you can't get them. Sorry for all the bad news.

No Probs man, I really appreciate the info...Might have to sell the 88 and buy a 40??...

Yea I was the same as you, I was buying the 40 (that's all I really need) but then fell in love with the extra features of the 88. 40, 88, whatever works. they're all cool amps. I think the 88 is best with my strat. very thick dark amp.IMHO

Sent a PM to Bruce, still waiting on a reply..:) Also looking for a schematic for the Tweaker 88.

The plate supply voltage in the 88 is 600 volts with 300 volts on the screen grids. If the tubes you wish to try meet those ratings, you can use them though I am not sure if the bias range is adequate to accommodate the different tubes and the transformer impedance may not be ideal.

Thanks Bruce, so if "you" were going to put EL34's in the Tweaker 88 What would you do to the amp? I would really love to hear this head with EL34's, don't care about voiding warranty and the like, as far as I'm concerned the experiment is worth it..:)
