Good morning all. Just bought a Tweeker 15 head to replace my 22 year old Mesa Boogie Studio 22+, as three shops were unable to repair it properly (including the factory, who said it just a noisy amp - wasn't when I bought it 22 years ago). so far, the Tweeker has exceeded expectations. Playing through a single 12" with a Vintage 30. My only "complaint" is low end is a bit light, so I'll be adding a larger single 12" which I suspect will solve the problem. So to my question - tubes - I have a set of Mullard 12ax7's for the pre section, and have noted some folks here have even upgraded to 6L6's, instead of the 6V6's. Would anyone just give me an overview of tube swapping and rolling, and what differences they've seen?

Thanks in advance!

Just pull and plug its that easy. The 6l6's will add some top and bottom compared to the 6v6's. I will tell you this I bought the 15 head and played it through the 1x12 cabinet it was majic. I brought it home, plugged it into my 2x12 with Tone Tubby's and my 4x12 with TT's, then my Mesa 2x12 with V30's. I was so disappointed I turned around the next day and bought the cabinet and when I got home there was the tone. Egnater Nailed that Cabinet with that Head for sure. I bet it would be killer with the new 2x12 that Egnater has out.

Back to tubes, I ended up with EL34's in my 15 for a long time and ended up switching back to the 6v6's after trying all the tubes. With the correct cab and speaker combo the 6v6 is all it needs. But swap away Egnater has made it super easy.

You know, the speaker in the Eganater cabinet is a different beast than the Vintage 30 or the TT's. I've got a Lopo single 12" cabinet (great cabinet) and am getting ready to order another one, and this time I'm going to load it with the G12H-30 instead of the Vintage 30. That might be the only difference. I can see what you're saying though....
