Is channel one of the twin jet capable of producing these type of tones since it is supposed to be a early Bogner Marshall for some of this? Seems like the tones are very Marshally to me and the cleans are with a volume knob mostly, still not the pristine cleans so I was wondering for those who have one and like these tones how well does it do?

Channel 1 is very reminiscent of a Marshall. But, it is more open, less saturated and compressed than equivalent Marshall gain. The TJ, with the post-EQ and the Channel 1 controls has so much more tonal variance than a JCM or JMP 2203. It is a mild to very driven Plexi tone with a lot of punch. The 88's probably give a lot of headroom, but the EQ controls really make the channel bloom. With the gain dimed out and a roll back on the guitar volume on the neck pick up of a LP, it has a wicked, sustained, blues/70's rock, gritty lead tone that is very nice.

As for pristine clean, I don't have much of an opinion as I have no need for it. Like its predecessor, the early Uber, I don't think it was designed to be a pristine clean amp. You would have some better options if you are shopping. I have been through loads of amps. I can tell you that between the Twin Jet and my Cameron CCV, these are two of the best and baddest ass amps on the planet.

Not wanting or expecting a pristine clean. Just wanting a nice gritty clean with the volume knob. Thanks for the information, sounds very cool!! I should have worded my initial post better regarding cleans.

I just came back from a reharsel using the twin jet loaded with JJ EL34's and man,
was I blown away..

I used the clean channel as a dedicated clean channel and it sounded great,
I was really surprised to discover how good this channel sounded, it was very
slightly overdriven since the gain was on 10 o'clock, but it was a clean sound,
not an overdriven clean sound, just had a nice warmth to it I liked.

I tried later driving the 1st channel into high gain territory and it's amazing to see how
this single channel excells at both areas.

It had a great rock\even metal tone, alot like a hot rodded marshall type of sound,
this channel could stand to my opinion as a high gain channel on it's own, it's not
like a nice feature the compliments the amp, it's a great tool the same way that channel 2 is.

Really I cant understand how anyone can complain on the performance of channel 2 as a clean channel, maybe if you're having super hot pickups or actives, but these type of pickups wont sound that good on any clean channel anyway.

To me, this amp is a no brainer, I'm completely happy with it.

Was going to change out the bias resistor and try some 34's, although I am really liking the 88's. I think that it will probably sound too much like my Cameron if I put the 34's in it. I think Bogner could find a better 88's than the Sovtek though. With the gain level dimed on Channel 1, I like the head room on it. With the gain around 1:00 on Channel 2, the 88's hold up well and don't get all saggy and mushy like 34's do in some amps. I would hate to lose the "oh shit" factor of the TJ. But, if I get really bored one day, I may have to convert it and give it a try.

Congrats on your purchase. I don't care much for white, but it does kind of grow on you and looks pretty cool. You got to get a cab though. No way you can feel the movement the TJ can give with just a 1x12.

Steve,

You should try a quad of Gold Lion RI KT88 tubes in there. I noticed a substantial uptick. TJ Rocks!!!!

May do that dude. Did you use the GL preamp tubes too? I had to get all them unmarked Chinese out of it. An LPS and a couple Tung Sols really makes the TJ go BOOOOOOOOOOOOOM........

At the time I wasn't sure to stay with 88's or go 34's. But, I have since decided to stay with 88's. Love the head room and the amp just kicks all sorts of ass. It is pretty much a set and go sort of amp.
