Hey guys!

I know that almost every weird noise to come out of these amps are because of bad preamp tubes.
But I thought since I have two different problems it may have two explanations.

The first problem is that sometimes (it comes and goes) when I play there´s a kind of crackling/distorted/almost digital noise. Preamp?

Second problem is that when I stop playing there´s a hum that also comes and goes, sometimes the amp is real quiet and all of the sudden it kinda pops and start to hum more. Preamp?

Oh, I might also add that these problems are not connected, I can hace both problems sometimes and only one of them sometimes

Have good one guys!

And by the way, I defenitively found my sweet spot on the Herbie today! KILLER!!!

Sounds like it might be time to clean all the preamp and power tube sockets.
It's a good place to start.

yeah I´ve had those thoughts too...when you say clean I presume you mean whipe it clean and such. I think it´s time to change all tubes aswell, expensive though :aww:

To me it sounds like a bad power tube. Cleaning tube sockets ain't a bad idea either.

I use De-Oxit on a cotton swab for the tube sockets. Just to be sure there is not dirt, dust or tube pin crud between
the socket contacts and the tube pins.

Ok! Yeah that sounds like a good idea, guess I have to pull it out of it´s shell...

nbart: You think powertube? Cause of both problems or..?

Yes, I have had both type of noises in the past with my amps & it was a power tube that was about to go bad.

Ok! That´s defentivly good to know! Is it hard to remove the amp from it´s shell? Because I guess I´ll have to if I´m gonna clean the sockets?
I´ve never done that before... :)

Take the back cover off first. There ar 4 bolts under the shell, after you take them off you should be able tp slide the amp out.. The important thing is to have your amp flar, you really don't want it tilted to the front, becase after you take the bolts off it could slide that way & hit the tube sockets & demage them.

Ok! Thanks for that! I guess I´m off to explore the Herbie tomorrow =P

Its really easy to open, but be careful, its more heavy than it looks like :D
