So my 12-year-old nephew is a Guitar Hero freak, like most kids
his age. He can finish the Dragonforce song on expert if that means anything.
About a month ago, he and I were talking and he challenged me saying he was better
at Guitar Hero than I was on guitar, so we decided to hold a competition with the
family around as judges.
We picked two songs to play: "Top Gun Anthem" and "Surfing With the Alien."
I took my Egnater and used EG5 Channel B for both songs and we went to shredding.
Both of my parents, who could not have been more displeased when I first took up electric guitar over 10 years ago, commented that my guitar had a really nice sound and that this was the best they had heard me play.
I was shocked--my parents are SO not the gain type--they usually only like clean acoustic stuff. My mom was the type to unplug my amp when I was younger because she hated the way it sounded.
All that said, my shout out to the Egnater folk is this: If you can make a high gain amp that MY parents think sounds good, you are almost miracle workers! Thanks for all you do.
P.S--That arpeggiated lick leading to the chromatic run and what follows in the Top Gun solo took me two weeks to get right! Steve Stevens is the man!
