i was thinking of getting a torpedo for recording in my place because i can not crank my herbert were i live. just want everybody's thoughts on it and if papa could answer if it would be ok to run the herbert on one that would be great.

you guys can get info on the torpedo at http://www.diffusion-audio.com andy is a great guy and is also the canadian distributor for canada for Diezel

...curious to hear what Peter and all of you guys think about it...

In theory it seems like a great device to combine both worlds especially in a recording situation, but to be honest these samples doesn't impress me too much.

What d'you guys think about this silent miking tool?

i had the torpedo. but sold it, cause nothings comes closer to a cabinet, than a cabinet. in recording situation i use the palmer pdi3. even on stage. the torpedo simulates the sound of speakers and cabinets. the palmer simulates nothing. so, you can work with both. but 2000 euros for the torpedo is too much. 350 euros for the palmer is ok. a friend of mine records a follow: he built a power soak (with resistors) for the amp and then went with line level into his computer where he uses the speaker simulation from the logic audio guitar plugin. cool sounding and cheap.

I like the torpedo for my situation i live in a basement suite. i jam and record in my basement suite. I jam using the jam hub which is a very good product to get tight with your band. so almost everything i do music wise has to be silent so i don't disturb my land lords who live upstairs.

Looks like a great product but VERY pricey. Hey....I wonder if that is my old Einstein! Andy is an awesome guy to deal with. Great communication and excellent after-sale support. Couldn't have a better guy up here, Peter!

I've kind of modified what I do for recording my Herbert at home. I have an older Grendal ISO cab (version 2) and I loaded it with a V30 speaker. IT attenuates that sound down about 38db. I then place another solid mdf box over it and that further attenuates it by another 20db. Really quiets things up, especially with a 3 year old in the house asleep. In my ISO cab I have a Sennheiser MD421.

The cab servers 2 purposes for me....if I want some authentic speaker movement, then I can use that and mix it in. It also acts as my speaker load instead of having a second load box. I've had some great success with the Redwirez cab impulses. I tend to use those in the studio anyways and thus, I just go out of the send and into my 11Rack and use the cab impulses in Pro Tools. Works great for me and was an economical solution that allowed me to get a few other much needed pieces of gear.

hells yeah andy is great was chatting with him for a couple of hours on facebook yesterday about the torpedo

Hi Guys, Andy from Diffusion-Audio.com here, re PBgas's Einstein, yes and no, in the video it's a 50watter but we've been using the head you traded in for all the shows, Montreal Salon de la guitare, Nashville Amp Expo, LA Amp Show and AES in SF next month. Pics are here: https://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2 ... 8346611223

We're working on some more clips with a variety of amps and guitars, but the Diezel's definitely one of our favourites.

Andy

Great stuff, Andy and great to hear from you! Glad the Einstein is working. Such a great sounding amp!!!

So happy with my Herbert, beyond belief! Sound wise, it is going to be featured in one of the yet as unnamed animated movies from one of the major companies. So excited about that opportunity that I had over the summer! I'll give you the info once it is legal for me to do so.

Many thanks again, Andy!

I know this is an old post but i have a question about hooking up the Torpedo to a Herbert. The Torpedo is only an 8 ohm load...doesn't the Herbert need a 16ohm load at all time or can you hook up only 1 - 8ohm load to the head. The reason why i ask is because of the 2 - 8ohm speaker outputs on the back of the Herbert.

You can do one 8 ohm load. the 2x8 (and 2x16) ohm is for running two cabs. I haven't seen the back of the Herbert in a while, but if I recall correctly the speaker outs are in a line going from 4 to 16 ohms from left to right, correct? (like this: 4ohm-2x8ohm-4ohm 8ohm-2x16-8ohm 16ohm). if so, I would plug into the 8ohm next to the single 16ohm sppeaker out

I found a picture of speaker out of the Herbert on google (I was surprisingly correct with my description   )

I circled the one you can plug into. At least, that is how I would think you should do it. I think it doesn't matter which of the 8 ohms you plug into though
