Two Twins, Two Marshalls, Three Dumbles in a theater...

What is the Dumble sound?

It seems no one can honestly answer, not even Joe or John... I did get the UAFX Enigmatic in which they worked with Joe to create the tones on the pedal.

well, Joe has 8 Dumbles IIRC.

Going from memory, I recall Eric Johnson Cliffs of Dover is the ODS example. They remind me of Fender Twins with a smooth OD, but not a sound I care about.

Yeah, I know but when people ask him, UAFX or any other Dumble owner to describe the sound, they don't ever actually describe it, they just say it's special or magical, was my point.

Even Mason from Vertex who has torn apart Dumbles can't describe the sound, instead he just says what cabs "would" or "wouldn't" be used with a Dumble. The sound isn't as elusive as people would tend to be believe but the character (how it reacts and interacts to pedals and dynamics) is something different. I think the UAFX pedal captures this, as well as Missing Link Audio's Sanatana signature drive pedal. Where the Dude, the Ultraphonix and DMBL haven't quite succeeded.

It's super cool that we are finally getting there. I can understand why Mason was recently upset.

Went to see him earlier this year. My father in law knows I’m into guitar and got us tickets for sound check a couple hours before the show. They went through a couple songs and wrapped it up and Joes amp tech walked across the stage - I took the opportunity to ask him about the jubilees I could see in the rack. Joe overheard me and asked if I wanted to come up onstage and check out his rig. He was cool as fuck - walked me through everything from guitars to pedals to amps to cabs.

I can’t really listen to his recorded music but watching him live is impressive - his control over the instrument is astounding.

Hermida Zendrive was the Dumble ODS pedal several years ago;
