Unchained....isolated

Love, love, LOVE the ISO tracks. When I‘m trying to learn songs by listening to the final mix, my ears play tricks on me and have me chasing rhythmic accent and punches that I ‘think’ are guitar and are obviously drums/bass once you hear the iso. Makes it so much easier to hear what you are actually trying to learn!

Marked for later...I can never get the weird prechorus riff in Unchained, I think it is harder than the lead lol

Not new but posting it anyway
And I still think I hear something I didn't before.

During the verse part as he's toggling back n forth between the C and D notes on the A string with some low D chunks in between (or at least I thought 'in between') but listen again, when he hits D note on the A string he starts a 5 chunk low D note (5x eighth notes on the low D) that continues thru the C note played on the A string. I always played those notes on the A string in between chunks on the low D. But he's doing some of them simultaneously.

I know right. And like @PDC said, there are these nuances you are talking about too that you can't pick up in the full mix. And your 5 -8th note example kind of stuff. The other thing I notice much more with this iso is that the rhythm sequences during the verse are all slightly different. I always wondered if Ed did that on purpose or he was just playing his ass off and things just kind of 'came out'. I'm sure it was mix of all of that.

Yes.

When we first got the isolated tracks that were ripped from the Guitar Hero video game. many years ago, it was a revelation !

Some of the ones coming out now are being done with AI, and as of yet aren't near as good as the actual master tracks, but they're getting better all the time.

First time i hear that there is a harmoniser on the last solo in Unchained!!!!

You can really hear it in the ISO!!!!

I'm an old man now, but Ed's playing still makes me feel like I'm 16 again, hearing him for the first time.

Edward Lodewijk Van Halen, the KING of rock guitar.

Fair Warning sounds gainier than VH I for me.
Sometimes I prefer the fuller tone of this album.

I’ve realized over time that Ed has always been in full control of what’s going on, he was the perfect mix of improv and exhaustive rehearsal.
He embraced nuance to a degree that was almost chaotic, but being the virtuoso he was, he couldn’t be touched.
There’s tons of players that are faster and cleaner than him, but they all sound like stiff ass Waldo’s comparatively.
I don’t think he ever played the same riff twice, and thank God for it.
