I figured I'd start a thread for the too often overlooked Riffmeisters of Rock 'n' Roll. "NOT" the Shredmeisters or anything of that sort. I'll start with my all-time favorite as a benchmark for whom I consider to be the "Ultimate Riffmeister" of all-time:

Mick Ralphs

Joe Perry when he was on drugs.

Paul Kossoff

Allright, Diezel gets the gold star for posting one of the "Best of the Unsung" that I was hoping someone would name! :D

Either this thread topic blows, or a lot of the young folk on this board may not even know who the hell we're even talking about? ;)

Here's another who I think is a "King of Riffs "and" Personality"!

Joe Walsh

Actually, if we are jusr going for King of the riffs, I'd have to throw Tony Iommi and Ritchie Blackmore in there too.

Lenny Kravitz, as a riffmeister he is not so well known ...

Damn right Joe Walsh..DEH EH EH UH DEH, DEH DEH DEH DEH DEH...DEH DEH

Jim Croce and Gordon Lightfoot for the lighter side of things.

For the more rock side: The guys from Boston and The Sorpions EVEN though that stuff is slightly more leady still great riffs.

Of course Ginger from The Wildhearts deserves a mention too.

Although not my usual listening anymore these days, for pure riffs alone, and how catchy they are, even without the rest of the band, (rather than my overall musical enjoyment of the songs) it has to be Slayer! (generally the early to mid point of their career like Reign in Blood, Angel of Death, Skeletons of Society, Blood Red, South of Heaven, Seasons in the Abyss, Mandatory Suicide, etc.) :m17:

From that listing of favourites I think they definitely win the crown for "Most evil song names ever" regardless!

I suppose Tom Morello has a lot to answer for too! Hard rock attitude + funk grooves = yay!

I guess neither of these are very "unsung" though.
