I have a chance to get a good deal on one of these with V30's which I understand Peter to think is the perfect speaker for the Herbert.... I am pretty sure I am going to make the move for this, just wanted to see if anybody had cons for this cabinet with the Herbert ahead of time.

I have been researching and it says the Stiletto cabinet is tighter with more mids. Has anybody compared these to say that is true or false? Between these two what is the consensus for Hard Rock/Metal Music with the Herbert.....

I think mine is a 2000 Mesa F4B slant with 70W Vintage 30's. Until I noticed I had the load hooked up wrong I disliked it, but now
it's there all the time. nbarts also make a great suggestion about EV-12L's which I loaded into a G-Flex.
It's brutal and give me my type of phasing. WIDE !!!!!

IMHO the recto is more to my liking and I like them crazy mids.
In physical dims side by side the Recto is a larger cab than the stiletto.
I prefer the straight side, slant face in looks but the chamber is the same as the regular slant.
BIGGER IS BETTER

I don't know if it will be of any help to you but I recently played my Herbert with an oversized Engl XXL Cab and it was a bit too boomy for me. Going from there I'd say Stiletto as you might have the same effect I had with the oversized Rectifier cab.
For speakers, out of those I tried I'd definitely say V30 for the Herbie and heavy stuff, I was recommended all V30 by Peter as well. That being said I have never tried K100s or Hempcones....

per my opinion the Rectifier OS cab is the worst combination for the Herbert. I have to play voer shitlaods of different cabs, and am quite used to cheap shit as the cheapest Randalls etc...but all these sounded better with the Herbert than the Mesa - this was just a big boomy pile of mud coming out. i had to turn the mid-cut off and roll Bass and Deep knobs back to almost zero to get a SOMEWHAT useable tone out of it.

First i thought "well, i guess this cab is just f***ed up.." - but no sir, 2 weeks later, another show, another Mesa OS cab - same situation.

Thanks for your input. So far you are the first with a negative experience. I am anxious to hear other opinions as well.

I paid $ 400 for mine, so I know it would have been easy to flip if it did not work out.
If the price is right, cabs are easy enough to try and flip locally. I have a buddy who bought
and flipped about 12 Marshall cabs already this year. Mostly on craigslist.

Actually the one I've tried is the smaller size, currently called Stilleto I believe, but not sure.

I had the Recto cab with my Herbert and would not recommend it.
Oversize cabs produce more bass, but the Herbert has more bass than any other amp out there.
If the stiletto is smaller, I would definately take this one to get a better cutting sound - you can always use the deep-knob to add more bass if you like

I am getting so many responses that negate each other, some love them and others hate them. Cabinets are hard to sell and I really do not want to take a chance on this, freaking decisions....

Absolutely go with the Stiletto cab (traditional-smaller size). It's blows the OS out of the water. I've used both extensively and the smaller cab sounds 100x better! It's slightly more punchy (in a nice mids kinda way) not harsh AT ALL on the top end which is crazy for v30's, and very balanced. You won't get the weird frequency changing depending on where you stand thing with the Stiletto cab. My fav cab I've ever played!

Based on input and research I think the Stiletto is the one I am going for. I had heard the Rectifier cabinets and thought they sounded great, but did not realize they were the traditional rectifier cabinets which are actually the Stiletto as they have been renamed. That is kind of confusing.

Yeah, these days they just call them the rectifier cabinet as the OS cab and the stiletto cab as the traditional cab. I would also not recommend the recto cab with the Herbert, but have heard good things about the stiletto cab.

Not sure about all the renaming of their cabs. But, if you're talking about the over-sized vs. the standard/traditional sized, then I'd go with the standard/traditional sized cabinet. It's less boomy and a bit more tight/focused in the low-end.

Yes after quite a bit of research and talking to Boogie Hollywood store the Stiletto cabinet is what used to be the Rectifier Traditional cabinet. It is quite misleading as well on Mesa Boogie's web site as they quote a bunch of artists in their artists section that use Rectifier cabinets, and they only have one Rectifier cabinet as of now the OS one.

When you view their artist endorsements that show Rectifer cabinets and read closely the details page you will see about 90% stay traditional Rectifier which is now Stiletto. Very confusing indeed. I have heard a lot of older Mesa Rectifer cabinets that I loved and based on that was purchasing a Rectifier cabinet. I probably would have been happy, but in the long run I feel the other old Traditional new Stiletto cabinet will be more mid specific and not as boomy which is what I want.

Gheeez.

I recommend the Stiletto cab with a pair of Vintage 30 and a pair of H30 with the Herbert. Try it ... you might like it. You might find it hard to find a better sound ?

The larger Mesa cabs have more boom. People that like the boom sound love them. I like using two 4x12 to get the extra bass without the boom. My other cab has a pair of Vintage 30 and Green backs right now.

If you want a more modern scooped sound the 100's are great.
