The only reason I can think of is so I can run my Neural DSP plug-ins. I have a couple of others that sound really good, but I like the Nameless the most.
I'm not trying to get all into home recording or make albums. I just want to record riffs and create basic song ideas, use EZ Drummer 3 to use drum loops for basic drum ideas and give to a drummer friend so he can come up with real drum parts.
But basically record song ideas. Besides running the Neural plug-ins is there anything else it will offer for my ultra basic beginner needs that GarageBand doesn't?
Id rather not spend $200

$200 is cheap for what you get with Logic in comparison to other DAWs. You will have more control, and all of your Garageband sessions will import into Logic with no problems. I like Garageband too. If you don't truly need Logic right now, don't worry about picking it up until you outgrow GB.

I kind of miss how easy it was to record little riff ideas and quad track with neural and reaper. I may have to get a new interface

You're positive you cannot use your Neural plugins in GB? It's not further down in the track submenus (AUs)? I think Logic is worth the price (vs any of the other pro DAWs), but if you're not going to use even half of the functionality, it might not be for you.

I agree; it sounds like you don't need Logic and if anything it may well prove to be a Trojan Horse ushering in option paralysis.

The plugin/s should work in GB AFAICT mate.

Yeah, I absolutely don't need Logic. I was totally happy using the 2008 version of GB up until about 2019 when my old iMac was so out dated and under powered that I couldn't even update the OS or connect to the internet. The computer and it's 2008 version of GB still work. The only thing that limited me with that old version was that each song had to have the same tempo. The current GB can have multiple tempos in one song.
I guess for me and my limited use the only drawback is not being able to run the Neural plug-ins.
There was some work around in the past but it meant disabling the malware security feature on the Mac. That doesn't sound like a good option.

Going from GB to Logic was the best Idea I made for my situation, I write a lot of Music and play other Instruments so It was a no brainer, do it bub do it!!!

You might grow into Logic's features some day, or you can use it as you use Garageband but be able to use your Neural plugins. $200 isn't that much to pay when you consider all Logic comes with and all the subsequent updates are free. I'm still getting free updates from my purchase of Logic in 2009.

If it's just a matter of overriding the default setting (you'll see a prompt "Open Anyway" or something to that effect in sys prefs / security & privacy / general), there's no danger mate.

It'll temporarily bypass the "gate", but only for the particular app or whatever.

Truly, if this is all it is, it's done all-the-time when one knows for-sure that one's not trying to run malware.

I think Monkey Man is right, you will have to do the same thing with Logic if you end up buying it. I have seen people use Neural DSP plugins in Garageband, so buying Logic won't fix this problem.
