Recently picked this up, Ibanez Hollywood CA USA Custom. I'm guessing the pickups aren't stock, but guitar is pretty damn clean for '93. a little finish scratching on the back from someone playing with a belt buckle, but clean and nice, with case.

So... what's it worth? Think I may flip it, guitar neck is very Ibanez/thin and I just can't handle them anymore. I tend towards thicker necks. Looked around the net and saw all sorts of conflicting info - don't want to price it too low or too high, but would like to get fair market value for it.

Comments?

Those USA Customs are all over the place price wise. I would honestly say $700ish is fair for something in nice shape.

Wow, that's much lower than I figured. Interesting. I figured it would be worth more than a similar prestige just because there are so few out there, especially with the u.s.a. custom logo.

All of those USA Customs are just RG770's with custom paint jobs. I believe they were shipped from Japan with just the bridge HB routed and the customer chose the other pickup options.

Wow, that's a beauty.

Agree with the valuation though, the Bunker-built USA Customs from the 90s with the tension-free necks can fetch in the 1500-2k range sometimes if they're in great condition, but those earlier 80s customs rarely get that high unless the paint job is really unique.

Any links or more info? Here's what I found on Jemsite... pertinent info in bold italic. And again, this guitar is a '93 Hollywood one.

Goin' to California

By early 1990, H&S eventually moved it's production out of Bensalem, PA. They headed west, taking their moving vans and equipment all the way across the States to their destination in California. In conjunction with the relocation, it was decided that H&S would be split into two separate locations. One shop was to be used exclusively for Ibanez endorsed artists, the other to product the "USA Custom" Ibanez guitars for the public who ordered them. The endorser shop was established on Case Ave. in North Hollywood. The customer H&S Custom Shop opened it's doors about 10 blocks north.

Once again, the H&S Customer shop recruited outside help to obtain their supplies and materials. It started to get parts such as bodies and necks made for them, but this time from California, rather than Ibanez in Japan.

The market on USA Customs is pretty awful. They're solid guitars, but they don't net much on the used market for one reason or another. Sometimes you'll see them go for a decent amount (~1000ish) because someone found a "must have" finish that they've always wanted, but their price isn't much higher than most Prestige models most of the time. Really great guitars, though. If you dig the finish on them, you'll get a real solid deal.

Edit: And yeah, the tension free neck ones definitely fetch more.
