Use Tweaker 40 power amp with M4 or other preamp

I´m pretty sold on buying the new Tweaker 40 to use it with my drive pedals. But I also want to use it with different preamps. So can I use the effect return for external preamps ? I think it depends on the design of the amp, for example my ENGL head works with external preamps. Can I still control the overall volume with the master when doing this with the Tweaker 40 ? I think I read somewhere that the Tweaker 40 ist different to the Tweaker 15 regarding this.

This is actually more what the E2 is designed to do, if it ever comes out...

I understand the concept of the M2. My concern is the Master Volume on the Tweaker 40. Does it still work when using an external preamp ? Somewhere I read it does not. I hope that´s not the case... ;-)

Because the T4 is a two channel amp, the loop is located after the masters. Curious why this will not work with your setup?

Hey Bruce-

I have a feeling that the E2 is "next in the pipeline" once Vengeance and Armageddon are actually in the stores. Can you give us any info on it?

Thanks!

Thanks, Bruce.

So if I use an external preamp in the loop the overall volume can only be controlled via the preamp´s output level, but not by the amp´s master, right ?

Can this "hurt" the power amp in any way ? (I´m used to have "control" over the power amp... ;-) Or do the tubes wear out faster ?

I plug my M4 into the return of my rebel 20 loop (which is also after the master volume like on the tweaker). I found it very hard to control the volume using the M4 output because it was way too sensitive... In other words, the output had to be set very low and any small increase in the output of the m4 resulted in a huge volume increase. You can fixed this by inserting someting else inbetween the can reduce the out of the m4 further. In my case, I have my GSystem in between (for delays and reverb). I set m4 output as loud as I can without overloading the GSystem, then use the GSystem output to control my overall volume. It works flawlessly and sounds amazing. I haven't noticed any additional wear and tear on my power tubes. It's also a nice benefit that I can adjust volume from my board without having to go back to the amp.

Len, I spoke to Bruce about the E2 and it's expected out this Jan or Feb! Finally I'll have my 4 channel amp.. You would then have a 6 channel amp!

You're gonna kill me Roddy- I got tired of lugging the Tourmaster after three years and went with the Renegade. Great amp!

Like you, went the Rebel 30 route first. That lasted about a week.

Renegade is great. Better reverb and line out than Tourmaster; very flexible, love the tube mix, and about 30 pounds lighter!

That is not to say that another Tourmaster might not show up sometime, but the E2 sounds great!

Glad you like the Renegade...Great amp... Had I not gone the Egnater/Randall MTS modular route I would have bought a Renegade.... And our backs are so much better for it!
