Hi guys,

I'm looking to re valve my VH4, just the power amp tubes at the moment. Last time I looked on here it seemed the way to go was with the 6550 however i've read a few posts that they're not that highly recommended mainly due to reliability issues. I mainly play metal/heavy rock and the EL34's that came with the amp have always suited me fine and so I have had a look online and there are a couple of options.......

What is the difference with the 'cryo'......

Also a 6550 option...

Any thoughts or recommendations of what to go for would be much appreciated

Diezel recommends to use EL34BHT or Svetlana =C= EL34.

Cryo treatment is . . . voodoo-ish.

And not to go against the top-brass that is "Diezel" and their recommendations, I've used a number of tubes in my VH4(S) and although the 6550's were pulled due to a higher incidence of tube failures and tube failure related issues, I've kept mine running 6550's as it sounds absolutely incredible. It may not be everyone's cup of tea, but for me, the 6550's sound better than the EL34's and I know a few other forumites will agree with me on this. I've had the amp for almost 2 years, and have suffered one tube related blow out with the 6550's. Since then, I replaced with another quad matched set of 6550's (Winged =C=) and haven't had an issue since; biased at about 70-75mA per pair.

Cryo freezing of tubes is snake oil.

Thanks for the replies.....

To be honest I did fancy trying the 6550's as initially i'd heard such great things about them, think i'm going to go for them! I've just found the ones below, seem's like a good price for a matching quad. Do you think they will be a decent valve???

If you want to use 6550, Sed winged "C" are IMHO the best choice.

+1 :2thumbsup: DO NOT cheap out on the tubes... DO NOT go by price alone! Get a quad matched set of Winged =C= SED's and do not look for the best price, just get them from a very reputable source.

i must agree with my boys! The Winged C's are super!! and i also have a quad of the Ruby EL34BHTs that are quite tasty!!

Thanks for the replies, I think I'm going to go for the winged c 6550. Let the rocking commence!!!
