Hey fellas... not trying to insult Papa Diezel's tube recommendations... but I'm just not really getting along with the KT-77's I don't think... it could be the preamp section, but I haven't had a chance to pull them all and see what the previous owner had in there...

Can anyone please recommend a cocktail of power and pre's that will get me the most top end/presence out of the amp? I've always viewed the VH-4 as a bit of a darker amp, and always looking to get a bit more top end out of it... doesn't help I'm using an Orange cab that seems to be inherently dark as well...

In addition, what Diezel cab would suit best for a more up front and present sound? Thanks fellas!

I have a VH4s and I am running it with Ruby EL34BHTs and TAD HG premium preamp tubes. I dont have a Diezel cab but I use a combination of V30s and K100s. I am really really happy with the sound.

Ruby BHT's Ruby pre's as recommended from papa. That's what was in that head you bought off me awhile back. I run it through orange412 sometimes. I never gel'd with kt77's in anything except einstein. Have to crank the presence a smidge more, but no issues cutting through a 5 piece with a bashing drummer.

I'd just go with a factory preamp tube setup. Ruby AC5 HG+ diezel 678.

Might want to try Ruby EL34 BSTR. I know Peter was using these for quite some time until switching to JJ KT77's.
