Somebody cut the bass and deep knob on the Herbert.
I´m not sensible when it comes to clips and records but
I never heard a Herbert sounding like this. It should have
way more bottom end as the VH4.

Anyway, thanks for the nice ampfest and recording.

I agree. I was wondering why it was set like this but you can't expect every amp to dialed perfectly. The VH4 :rawk: !!!
One of my favs.

i didnt like the way that Herbie was setup. Just my $.02. i know mine will rattle your brain (even @ low volumes )

VH4 was a clear victor in all this!! :D

You are absolutely correct--those in the booth asked us to reduce the bass and dis-engage the Mid Cut function. It sounded MONSTER in the room, but something was off in the way it was recorded. This amp sounds WAY better live, and when dialed in properly.

Peter, now that I have the Herbert home, I'll record and post some comparison clips. Also, thanks for sending the LEDs for Channel 1--I soldered in a new one and it's perfect... and I have spares. THANK YOU!!

Regards,

I never had the pleasure to play an Herbie, but this sounds too thin to be a Diezel LOL :D
Just jokin', it ain't easy to tweak all the amps properly when you do this kind of shootout...thanks for sharing

I liked the VHT and the Marshall too, but the VH4.... :inlove: :worship:

seriously?
there is no way you can dial in a herbert wrong, except maybe when cutting a band completely.
i actually found this herb-recording one of the best. i also use a low deep and bass setting basically because the herb has such a sh**load of bottom-end. for leads i even cut the bass and treb to 30% and crank the mids on max.
the important character of an amp are the mids, because live an in studio the bottom-end always comes from the bass.

Let me tell you that no other amp I have played (I have played and owned a boatload!) hits harder on the bottom end than the HERBERT! Plain and simple. It can level 3rd world countries with the flick of a switch. That is the problem with videos like this. Notice all the huge variations in output levels? Too many variables involved. The real world is a different story.

Hmm, okk, I LOVE the Herbert clip. All the time I hear how compressed the Herb sounds and how it has troubles cutting in a band. This clip showed the exact opposite, a raw and dynamic beast, but still with a fantastic voicing. The VH4 ruled when it came to perfect shaped distortion (it actually shared the spotlight with the SLO, an amp which is still a benchmark after all these years), but something about the Herbert clip made me come back to it every time.

I dont know but my winner is the Herbert. Nice cuttig mid sound.
But in this clip i hear the same thing my Herbert does. In ch3 when he stops playing the Herbert mekes his "oouuuummm".

Like Freddy M.:"To much love (gain) will kill you."
