Peter of course had the answer I was looking for on how to mod Channel 4 on the VH4 to make it tighter and track faster so I can then use it as my solo channel. It now seems a tad tighter than channel 3 and all you have to do is swap out a resistor. :rock:

Here are the clips, same guitar, gear and knob settings except the mod on Chan 4.
Included is a Channel 3 clip so you can hear how the modded Chan 4 compares to the stock Chan 3.
The crazy thing is I copied my old Chan 4 EQ knob settings over to Chan 3 and both Channels sound really similar except I lowered the Treb 1/2 hour more on Chan 3 and the Gain is of course really different.
Chan 3 = 2pm
Chan 4 = 11am

I should've done some retakes but 1 take is all I care to do on this stuff.

Stock Compression Channel 4

Modded Resistor Channel 4

Stock Channel 3

If anyone is interested in getting this done I can see if my electronics buddy, here in IL, can help out the Diezel crowd, he's a Denon tech and knows his stuff.
Email me if interested mike at sage4.com

You can definitely tell the difference, I like it!.

I always wondered if something like that can be done on Ch2 of the Einstein. I love the overall tone of the Ch2 vs Ch1 mega (which I also love), but the compression is too much for my taste, even with the gain low.

NO CONCERNS !

THIS IS NOT A NECESSARY MOD FOR YOUR AMP !

Sinister, please tell Your buddy to do his daily
work ;)

Sounds really good! What were all your settings on both the channel 3 an channel 4 clips? Your running el34's?

cool man, i was considering doing this mod on my VH4 also but either hooked to a switch where the stock cap value is present, then flicked it goes to the modded cap value. So it is reversable easily.

That, or hook it up to a variable resistor and pick where I like the compression haha. Not sure how I feel about that one though.

I'm not saying this is a necessary mod if that was directed towards me Peter, I'm just letting other VH4 users hear what this will do so they can determine if this is necessary for them. :thumbsup: I really like it.

Knob settings are really subjective, if I move the mic 1/2 a head towards the dust cap it's almost back to square one again. But to give you an idea

VH4 = EL34's
Rhythm tones for Chan 3 and 4 were
Bass = 2pm
Mid = noon
Treb = 3pm (chan 3)
Treb = 3:30pm (chan 4)
31 band EQ, Celestion G12 Century Speakers, and the SM57 mic is 1.5 heads away from the dust cap glue.
I play through the Lava Blue Demon Cable just to throw that out there.

I like the "mod" better... the lows are less muffled and the highs sounds right.

For rythm work the modded ch4 felt better than original ch4, cool if you want two rythm channels !
Personally I like having ch4 rather compressed (original) 'cause I use it mostly for leads and run ch3 for rythm.

It would be cool to have that mod switchable - replace the switching for the channel inserts and have an extra switchable mode for each channel with more/less compression instead!

I re-read your post and saw that you wanted to use ch4 for soloing after the mod.
I really like to have "help" from a rather compressed lead channel, mosly to cover up my sloppy playing :D , but I really liked the sound of the modded ch4.

Do you have the possibility to record some solo on ch4 and ch3 so I can hear the difference between the channels on single note runs ?

best regards
/Tobbe
