ok, I read the manual (the VH4 still hasn't gotten here) but I took the time and read it, just to be prepared.

I understand the inserts thing...... now, My Boss ME-50 multieffects.... I asume should go in the loop right? so it can affect the whole signal, not an individual channel.

Now, can I store my effects? for example.... lets say I have the unit in the loop, and I have a slight Delay while in ch. 1, bum I hit store, then I switch to channel two and add a little bit of reverb instead of delay and hit store..... will the Midi program save the effect setting from the ME-50 too?

If the ME-50 has midi control, which I don't think it does, then it would save your effects patch as well.

Basically, because the ME-50 doesn't have Midi, you will have to change patches on the pedal separately than when you change channels on the VH4.

actually, I can make presets with the ME-50, I can combine all the fx I want and "store it" but I don't think it's a midi controller (like the columbus for example)

no, you won't be able to do what you are suggesting. you don't need a columbus midi controller though. the vh4 can be switched by anything that sends an omni midi signal. lots of stuff out there that doesn't take up much pedalboard real estate. but, it will take two stomps, one for the channel and one for changing the patch on the boss.

I use a Voodoo labs ground controller. It controls the GCX audio switcher and I go from the MIDI out on it to the VH4 MIDI in. Also, I have a CAE RS10 from Bob Bradshaw and 4x4 audio switcher that just arrive today. Still in the box.

Bought the 4x4 switcher, RS10 and a stereo line mixer (slightly used) on ebay for $930. List on all this would be about $2300. Will give it a whirl. Oh, also picked up a Columbus switcher on ebay for $320. Don't envision needing to use it as I will switch with the RS10. I don't have much channel switching needs though as I pretty much live on Ch3.

Other than how you plan to switch channels and control the VH4, the series insert loops are the best thing since sliced bread. You don't have to muddy up the front end of the awesome amp with tone sucking pedals, wet/dry signals, etc. and being able to MIDI switch the inserts the gives you loads of options. If you like the ME50 and find you are staying on a particular channel for most of your playing, you can leave it on the floor, control your effects and loop it through the channel insert. If you have only one or two effects you lean toward, grab a couple cheap stompboxes and insert them. Since they aren't running out front or in the parallel loop, their true bypass capabilities doesn't matter. To handle channel changes on the VH4, you can buy any small midi switcher (Tech 21 midi Mouse, Axcess Electronics, etc).
