I enjoy experimenting with different tubes. I'm curious if anyone has tried a VH4 with KT66s. Those are next on my radar to try if there are any positive comments. Any recommended brands? Thanks!

Hi!

I tried the KT66 in my Einstein. I did like what those tubes did to the cleans. They are more 6l6 like sounding. (I think those are 6l6 derivates without the "kink" in the load line...)
They seem to have a springy quality to them that makes them fun to play but:
I prefere the EL34 when it comes to distorted tones and the have a tightness that I would miss with the KT66. Im my JTM45 they sound awesome though.
I would like to try the new JJ KT77;-)
Best,
Stefan

jj kt77s are awesome in the vh4. like el34s but more lows and a very distictive tone...

Thanks guys. Sounds like the KT66 is a step in a direction away from what I was hoping for. How would you characterize the tone of the KT77s in the VH4? Thanks!

:scared: A VH4 with more lows?!
Are we talking tight bass, or just monstrous rumble?

more lows than el34s. and i would say they're tighter than el34s as well. rather punchy, but not too much like kt88s.

with kt77s, the overall tone is a bit tighter and not as harsh. the highs and upper mids are very different than el34s. they're more glassy (in a good way). there's more clarity, and it translates to the ears and fingers as more aggression because of the punchiness and tightness in the higher frequencies.

i've never tried kt66s but kt77s are definately worth a shot.

That sounds really really interesting mate, may well have to try some 77s out soon then.. Thanks mate!

Guys, thanks for the comments. I have a quad of JJ KT77s on the way and will post my thoughts after playing them for a bit.
