Call me at (239)565-5012, will be happy to walk you through the entire thing man :)

Kit

Im sure Kit will be able to help you, but if you face additional problems do not hesitate posting questions here we will gladly help you.

I use also GCP to control my rig, which includes VH4 and other rather complex setup.

The factory setting on the amp is omni, so it don´t depends
on Your channel setting on the pedal.

I think the guys knows more than me about the ground
control. Please chime in.

You can make your own call, but I prefer switching the VH4 off from the Omni-mode, because I like to have completely independent control over all of the MIDI-controlled equipment in my setup. In other words, I have VH4 in MIDI channel 1, other amp head in MIDI ch 2, FX1 in ch 3, FX2 in ch 4 and so on. I like this because as you will see the GCP will send (or either not send) individual commands to all of these channels, which in my case means that individual command is send to all separate piece of gear. And I know some of you do not prefer it this way.

You may very well know at least part of what is written bellow, but just skip it and concentrate to the parts you are not familiar with. Also the GCP manual may be handy (may be downloaded from the VoodooLab website).

1.
Connect your equipment to each other and make sure that the MIDI-controlled devices are connect so that the MIDI-signal may flow directly if possible = use MIDI through if possible. This is because then the original signal sent by GCP will go directly to your equipment and you do not have to program the devices to send MIDI-commands to each other.

2.
First you need to recognize in which MIDI channel your equipment (VH4, FX, etc.) are. Write them down to a piece of paper.

3.
Open the GCP setup by pressing the two “setup mode” buttons for two second or so. Then press the button “device name/channel”. Here you will set the device and its channel. E.g. if your VH4 is in MIDI-channel 1 you should set here the Device 1 (name it as VH4 for example) to MIDI-channel 1. Device 2 could be for example “Eventide” and operate in Ch 2.
Exit setup mode when all of your equipment is configured.

4.
Launch a preset in GCP. Number 1 is a good starting point.

Hold the “edit” button for a while and watch the screen. You are now in the preset’s setup mode (not the systems/GCP’s). Now press down arrow and you should see your devices listed there. The number after the device name is the MIDI-command that is send to the specific device when the preset is launched.

I think that for VH4 you may want to use 1, 2, 3 and 4 for the corresponding channels and maybe for example 11, 12, 13 and 14 for channels with MIDI-assignable parallel loop or channel inserts on or then both on. Maybe 0 is good option for the mute. Write these down as well.

Now make your decision on what command should launch what and then program your first own preset. Make note that the GCP sends the commands in real-time so when you are changing the command key/number in GCP’s preset editing your device should react to it.

VH4 is just a charm to program. I really love the easiness of it in MIDI programming. Let’s try an easy one here:
- Set the GCP presets 1 to send VH4 a command 1. Manually select VH4 Ch1 and press store twice. Exit your GCP preset editing and and remember to save.
- Set the GCP preset 2 to send VH4 a command 12. Manually select VH4 Ch2 and Send 2 on + press store twice. Exit your GCP preset editing and and remember to save.

Try changing these two presets. Does it work as it is supposed to?

Im sure you got the idea and know how to continue here.

5.
Other equipment will be a complete other story, but the concept in GCP and in MIDI-command is the same. I recommend referring to the effects manuals in terms of programming them. Im sure we here on forum may help you as well, but maybe you want to give us something to start with.

…and it’s very likely that I have missed something (especially because I have done 12 hour work day and Im in desperate need for a beer  ). I apologize for that and welcome all other guitar-rig madmen who are much wiser than me to participate here.

My ground control Pro basically just sits and has kind of scared me away from my rack.
I dont use it often enough, and every time i do, i forget how it works, and get frustrated and just switch to a head.

it's not that complicated, but for some reason i get a mental block with some of this midi stuff.

i don't think I have ever really understood it.
