VH4 or Einstein??

So I finally had the chance today to play a Diezel. It was the Einstein and it blew me away. I almost bought it then and there, but then I got to thinking if I like the Einstein this much, would I like the VH4 more? The Herbert is too much power for me so it's out. I'm into hard rock, little bit of metal, but nothing crazy. I LOVE Muse, and I know he rocks a VH4. I guess my main question is, aside from obvious operation features, what are the tonal differences between the two? Does the VH4 have more gain? Would channel 2 on the Einstein compare channel 3 or 4 on the VH4? Or are the amps the more or less the same tonally, except the VH4 has the channels all independent, where as the Einstein condenses 3 modes into one channel, plus a lead channel? Cause having 4 independent channels and MIDI doesn't make or break it for me either way. It's about the sound.

Thanks!

From what I've read here (haven't played either  ) the Einstein is more vintage sounding (more marshally too) whereas the VH4 is a a bit more modern (The Herbert being the most modern of the three), but the main difference I've read is the VH4 is the most DRY and compressed of them all (in a good or bad way depending on your taste)

Gain wise, I've also read the angriest and most RAW is the herbie, the VH4 comes second and seems to be a little bit more "smooth" than the herbie whilst still maintaining a very aggressive sound. The Einstein is capable of getting VERY heavy too (as you might have heard) but is more "british" flavored.

Again, ALL THIS is based only on what I've READ and clips I've heard, which I don't trust 100% on, because sometimes recordings (or poorly recordings for that matter) don't do justice to an amp. Also opinions are very subjective, and in the tone world everyone has a dif. perspective on things.

Go play them all.

I still don't know what type of guy I am (Herbie/VH4/Einstein guy) but when the time comes for me to get a Diezel, I'll test drive em to make sure I got the one I really want, and not be GASING another one while I have one in my room.

NOTE:

you should not discard the Herbert, I've heart GREAT clips from this amp (so far I think I like this one the best, and even though I play metal/hard rock as a hobbie, the music I play more often is pop-rock with blues falvors) It's NOT a metal amp alone, this guy can do it ALL, ask Olaf (duesentrieb) he plays a Herbert and He's not a metal player. The cleans are AMAZING and even though it's got 180 watts (correct me if I'm wrong) it sounds UNBELIEVABLE good at low (bedroom) volumes.

The reason I am not thinking Herbert is because it would blow up my cab. I have a 2 Vint 30 / 2 Greenback
4x12.

The VH4 and the Einstein are voiced differently, and react to your playing in a different way. A/Bing them I personally preferred the way the Einstein played rather then the VH4. This is nothing to do with quality of tone as both sounded great but the Einstein spoke to me whereas the VH4 didn't. The Herbert plays differently too - it's bigger sounding as opposed to the directness of the VH4.

Is the Einstein vintage? Well... not exactly. It has a kind of traditional feel (not as tight as the VH4, not as biiiiiig as the Herb) but it has the gain & clarity of the other amps. I practically live in mode 3, and can throw trem picked riffs and doomy stuff at it without any changes needed. Great clean, nice lead channel.

Try them all out! I will admit that if I had the cash I'd love a Herbert but as I'm an idiot the simplicity of the Einstein works for me. It's very hard to make it sound bad.

So if I have a Soldano Hot Rod 100+, which is nice and warm, big rock sound; would the VH4 maybe be a bigger departure from the Soldano than the Einstein would be? I'm down for something nice and tight. I'm down for lots of gain. Wouldn't mind something that could pull off some old school Marshall-esque tones. Does the VH4 have more gain than the Einstein?

Not sure about comparisons to the SLO but I found the VH4 tighter & slightly less organic then the Einstein. Again, all IMO.

VH4 Ch4 has more gain available than the Einstein. Neither are exactly old school Marshall, mind you, but can do EL34 crunchy if you fiddle with the gain.

I have a Hot Rod 50 and a VH4.
Gainwise, Hot Rod has a bit less gain than VH4's 3rd channel but way more than it's second channel and a lot less than the 4th channel :D :D :D .
Tonewise, both sound 'Marshally' since they have the EQ after the preamp section and not before. The Soldano sounds more midranged and its high frequencies are a bit harsh compared to VH4's (Yep VH4 has a smoother top end). VH4 has more bottom end for sure and more usable gain (even at extreme settings it does not become harsh).

Edit 1: I believe that VH4 and Einstein have the same amount of gain but a bit different voicing (4 gain stages)
