I just received my VH4 and am really loving it. Just curious as to what type of tubes you guys are using....mine is a 2008 model that came with chinese 9th pre's and SED EL34's....

Thx,
Todd

I'm still running the original stock Chinese in V1-V7 and SED 6550's. Mine did come with a JJ ECC83 in the V1, but I swapped it out for a Chinese HG+.

SED 6550s :D Ruby HG+ in V1 & V2. Ruby HG in rest. SLAYS!

=C= 6550's at about 80mA a pair
Chinese 12AX7B's and C's

Perfect :D

My vh4 came with winged c el34s and a mixture of ruby hg+'s, ruby hg's and tad preamp tubes. I'm not fond of the winged c 34's in any guitar amp I've played so when I blew one I opted to put in in e34l's in the power section to try and maybe open the amp up, warm it up and maybe add some grit to my to my tone. I replaced v1 with a in ecc83S tube to try do the same thing.. I've had moderate success but the amp is still a bit compressed/ tight and attacky for my style, so I'm still experimenting. Im going to take the tungsol out of my marshalls v1 and try itin different spots in the vh4 today hopefully. I'm also looking at 12at7s or 5751's to put in some positions to try help open the amp up a bit moreand make me use the gain knob a bit more. Any one have any suggestions to try that would help get me closer to what I was mentioning before? :D

I've been swapping alot of tubes in my VH4 lately to experiment, I currently have this - Ruby HG+'s in V1/V4, JJ ECC83S's in V2, V3 and some TAD 12AX7's for the rest. Looking into 12AT7's/5751's for the phase inverter or even some use in the early sockets. Should be interesting.
