Hi guys,

I would like to know if the VH4 can do the scooped sounds like the Herbert. I know it doesn't have the mid cut feature. The VH4's eq can cut some mids to get that big scooped distorted sound?

Thanks a lot.

Vinicius Rosa.

Of course you can scoop the mid or put an Eq in the loop but I really think you can't reach Herbert voicing.

Mine does scooped metal. Not as much as my Engl Fireball 100 did.......
but it does the BROOOOTZ!!

I completely disagree with this, IMO the VH-4 is NOT a metal amp... sure it has unbelievably amounts of gain on tap... but it is just NOT voiced for the more brutal styles of metal, you can completely scoop out the mids and it STILL has a bit of a mid-range growl to it... it's just the way the amp is voiced and you can never really dial it all the way out..

Mailman.... sorry that came off as rude, wasn't intended at all brotha

Like I said don't get me wrong, the VH-4 can sound plenty heavy... especially if you put some 6L6's or maybe some KT88's in here which has more prominent Lows and Highs and more tamed mids... but if you are looking for a scooped sound the Herbert is your best friend IMO...

That being said, nothing cuts through a mix like a VH-4, even WITH the mids scooped out, it really is a thing of beauty... I was just playing with our other guitar player who borrowed a Triple Rec to jam for the day since he's in the market for a new head of his own, and my VH-4 just completely buried him... I didn't want to change my settings so I just lowered my volume, and the VH-4 was cutting so much our volumes still sounded the same even though I was at about half the amount of volume as him... ahhhhh life is good

I totally agree with you 100%.
I like the VH4 for the voice of the amp. I have owned WAAAAY to many SCOOPED sounding amps and while they have their place.....
I think for the metal I play the VH4 is a metal amp.
You have to remember....I am pushing 40 and to me Metal is Pantera , Slayer, Metallica....etc Old School stuff!
And it sounds WONDERFUL with this VH4.
For the Newer style metal.....I would say a scoopier amp would be in order thus the Herbert.
But your spot on in the description! This amp is a powerhouse.

I play metal.

But I like mids. So I like the VH4 a lot. In fact, I crank the mids across the board and I still can't get enough. Sounds aggressive as hell. :)

Not yet. I sent an email to Peter before the Musik Messe, but so far I got no answer from my last emails, so I am still waiting for him, so I can order it.
