have your volumes set up on each channel?

I got to turn up my amp today a lot (master around 10:00) and in the clean channel I had the volume on 12:00....but in ch.3 the volume needed to be around 8:00 to match the volume in channel 1 otherwise it would INCREDIBLY FREAKING loud.... plus it would not match when I switch between the channels

I've noticed that the level of Gain will affect where the channel volume ends up, this has been true on every amp I've owned, including the VH4 and Einstein currently in my living room ;)

I'd guess that your Ch3 gain is cranked up in relation to your Ch1?

FWIW When I play in a band situation or with the master up over 9'oclock I will dial back the gain and bass EQ as well as play with the presence and deep. What sounds good at low volume won't always work while cranked up.

Isn't that the whole point of individual volume controls on each channel? You set your EQ and gain how you like them, and then balnace the output with the volume control, the master volume sets the overall level.

Better to think of them as trim or balance controls rather than volume.

actually every channel has the gain set to 12:00

Channel 3 is still a higher gain channel than 1 as I understand it, so 12 on 3 is having more effect than 12 on 1.

I have the channel volume on channel 3 at 3:00. Gain is around 1:00. The gain on channel 1 is at 12:00, volume is around 1:00 or so, I have to double check it.

That's always been the holy grail for multi-channel amp - getting the levels dialed in across the board. So, for gigging, my VH4 stays on Ch. 3 and never leaves. I don't even hook up a controller to change channels.

It all depends on what sound you want Joey. Switching things changes things.

I know..... the thing is I might be a little confused because the Einstein for example sounds best with the channel volume around 1:00 - 2:00.........so I'm doing the same to the VH4 and goddamn I cannot have a balance volume between channels this way. Ch1 with the volume around 2:00 sounds loud, but when I go to ch3 with the volume at 2:00 it's unplayable (too loud!, even live, I know it would not be right)

maybe the VH4 doesn't need the channel volume around 2:00 to sound good
