Hello.

I've just bought a used VH4S. The head is from 2006, powertubes are EL34. The seller isn't honest cause the amp has problems, he sold me the head saying it was "absolutely like new" : whatever channel I play on, I ear some "cracks" on the left channel of the stereo, sometimes, there isn't any sound at all on this side of the stereo. I have changed the EL34 from left to right to know if there was a problem woth the powertubes, but the problem is still the same... I'm really desappointed, A friend, after trying the head (certainly on the right channel...he don't know really well the stereo amps), bring it to me, so I haven't seen the seller, who's saying the head IS new... (the black tolex leaves the head too...he's a liar.... :gethim: ).

Help...

Change the two preamptubes farest from the input jack. Report.

What brand are the power tubes?

I put a new set of JJ EL34s in my '01 VH4 and had similar problems.
As soon as I swapped the tubes for Mesa EL34s, no more problems.

JJ tubes have undersized pins, and it can cause contact problems unless you have your tube sockets tensioned before they're installed.

Thanks for your help. Powertubes are the original ones, I don't remember the Brand... I will try to change it, today the amp works normally... Strange.
