Hi guys, midi noob here again. :)

I need some help, with the initial hook up. I did everything the manuals and the Diezel manual says and am having no luck.

Ok so before my ENGL Special Edition EL 34 even comes I just want to get it up and running changing the channels on the Diezel and adding my 2 boss pedals to the FX loops.

So first the Diezel VH4S manual shows you how to set her ready to accept midi messages etc by entering "Omni" mode. Which I did. (Just hold mute down, then press send 2 and all the lights flash saying you are in Omni mode)

Ok so I have the GC pro into the GCX and the GCX into the midi in of the Diezel. Now there must be some phantom power, as the GC pro is just light up in one spot ........ "edit" (also I am using all midi cables)

So anyhoo, I hooked it all up, entered Omni mode. The red led under Edit is lit (although it seems kinda weak lit and the active LED on the GCX is not lit) . So I do what the manual says, and hold down the 2 setup buttons to enter edit mode...then hit utility.....but nothing happens. Meaning nothing appears on the middle screen etc, for programming. Any advice guys? Thanks in advance fellas!:D

Phantom power doesn't pass through most units without a mod. You either need to:

1. Power both units with thier own power supplies
2. Plug the GCP into the amp MIDI in (phantom power), then hook the GCX to the MIDI thru and hook the GCX to it's power supply

Thanks man I think the power maybe the issue as the LED is not very bright and kinda weak lit. Thanks! I'll keep this thread updated

yeah did not work, I have both power adapters in the GCX and one tothe GC pro and still no main screen coming up, just the one LED light on set up :(

Did you figure it out? Its not hard, Message me if you need help.

Thanks man I got it up and running. Turns out it was not a bum GCp........it was the cables!! Voodoo told me that many companies make 5 pin Midi cables but only have 3 that are wired   So once I got the right cables voodoo walked me through hooking up the ENGL, and the JC-120. I'll do the DIezel later when I get more cables. :)

Yeah man thats what I figured when you PM'd me on HC. Thats what it sounded like to me. Alot of people dont realize that only 3 of the pins on a regular MIDI cable are wired.. You need the other two pins wired to Phantom power. :aww:

yeah sucks as I bought 3 sets of monster midi cables and now they are worthless. Luck I had a few lying around that were.

Do you think just like a radio shack would carry them? Thanks man!

Also if you could help, when i got to hook up the Diezel Vh4S....do I go Midi thru from the ENGl to the Diezel Midi thru? Is that the proper when because then both amps will be sennding midi messages to the GCX? Thanks again man!
