VH4S Power Tubes Question

I love high gain tone (I pay a lot of instrumental rock) but also love a nice clean tone and mellow bluesy tone. I don't like the clean and blues channels on my VH4S. Could I put in 2 EL34 and 2 66's? I want to make sure chans 3 and 4 retain their ballsiness.

I have similar question about my Einstein. But it just has 2 power tubes so I imagine I need one or the other, right? Though I think the clean on Einstein is great as it is with the 34s.

Likewise, I have a Kock Powertone II (awesome amp!) that has 4 power tubes. I know I can mix 2 of two different types, but not sure which ones affect clean vs high gain. I can post the schematic if someone has some time to help me figure this all out... I love to play my guitar but I am not that technical under the hood of my amps...

thanks,

brian

Brian, the power tubes have nothing to do with the channels.
Come over and I will burn You that thing :gethim:

:D

Alles klar Peter!

I wish I still lived in Germany...

I just emailed you asking for Einstein schematic (1x12 combo). I am going to put in the EL34 SED tubes and also Tung Sol 12AX7s (the new editions). Do I need to do anything special with V1? I think the Tung Sols are already low microphonic. What about V7? Will any old 12AT7 work? Also, which fuse are you referring to on your website when you say "jack corresponding fuse"?

Danke im voraus!

brian

Go with a low microphonic for V1 and a 12AT7-C Chinese one for V7.

Best,

Peter

You can't mix tube types in the VH4S, there is only one bias trim pot.
When you say 2 66's do you mean KT66's or 6L6's?
Just a warning, despite what you may have heard, you cannot put KT66s in a stock VH4S. I tried and blew up the amp.
Mike at Salwender had to do a minor mod to my VH4S in order to handle KT66's. It sounds great with them now!
