If you run only one channel (right or left) of the VH4S into a mono cab (2x12 or 4x12) would it basically be like running the amp at half power, allowing for lower volume? Or do you lose something by not running the amp in stereo?

Is there any downside to running the amp in mono?

You just run the amp mono in 50 watt that's all. I don't know if you have to connect your second channel on a load box though even on standby.

Make sure both sides are connected to a load. I often turn the volume on one side all the way down, when micing a single speaker. Perfectly fine as long as both sides have a load.

Referring to above remark; so one should always have "a load" on the one channel that isn't being used. What simple device can be used?
I normally use a stereo cab, but it would be nice to take the amp only to rehersals and use a mono cab that's readily available.
I understand that is not possible to take the stereo out through a Y-cable to mono - but to overcome problems what can be used as a load apart from another speaker - otherwise I will keep on lugging my stereo cab with me :scared:
