opinions? (BTW, I'm not talking about the rocktron IE4, I mean the red or gold ones that Bruce built in his shop)

both handmade in USA, both shred machines, both have midi.

They probably both sound suitable for my tastes.

THe only advantages I see for either:

VHT: currently appreciating in value in a relatively slow amp season, graphic EQ, looks sweet, modern bling factor.

Egnater: 4 channels vs. 3 on the VHT, I already love the Egnater Preamp voicings, EG5, SL3, Seminar, etc, I can also pretty much call Bruce anytime if I want help with it, mods, etc. Also, the Bruce-built, non-rocktron ones are actually one of the rarest, widely-known boutique preamps.

If I had the choice between the two...I have no clue.

Both are awesome preamps.

Both are very nice but I still prefer your CAE 3+SE.
GP-3 (I had one) sounds a bit drier than the IE4. The Rhythms and clean on GP-3 are killer but IE4 has rounder and nicer leads.
Tone wise GP-3 is nearer to your CAE I believe.

I had that in mind a little bit too.

However, with a little work, the CAE has some of the sickest lead tones around, but it's not a plug and play sound. It takes some tweakin'.

Maybe I should just get both, so I can start on the grail collection.

I totally agree with you

IE4 is more Marshally
GP3 is less Marshally

You can pick by the above description.
