I'm at my sister's house and her kid takes Violin lessons so I was messing around with it. Holy crap I was hitting all the strings with the bow accidentally and trying find the intervals, I think it's tuned to fifths.

Pretty cool, makes guitar seem a little easier lol.....

No doubt it's definitely a difficult instrument even if you've played other stringed instruments.. It's hard to get it to make the right noises

Schecter made a 5 string guitar (baritone I think) called a Celloblaster a few years ago. It was tuned to fifths. I want to try one.

i tried playing a violin once...i could barely make a note!!! i always wanted to try to play a fretless guitar, but after that...i dunno. not having frets doesnt seem so fun :aww:

Violin is great, I've played upright bass forever and it's not THAT signifigant a change. I can honestly say starting on a fretless instrument gives you much better tuning than on a guitar, the kids I play with (we are 16-19) for classical all have perfect intonation and many have perfect pitch! If INSANE!

I tried one at Midnight Music like 10 years ago. Weird instrument.
