Hi,

I have the VH4 which I have had for 16 months from new which I absolutely love, Diezel are white hot!. I have been using the amp 3 times a week for the past 6 months for full band rehearsals at a relatively loud volume.

I have the master at about 11 o’clock and the channel volumes as follows: channel 1 at 11 o’clock, channel 2 at 11 o’clock (ish) but I have to have channel 3 at about 1 o’clock to keep an even volume across the channels. The gain is slightly below half on ch.3 but this is the main channel I use.

I find the 2nd channel really punchy and very percussive (not that channel 3 sounds bad), but if the volumes were the same on all channels there would be a drop in volume when switching to ch 3.

Has anyone else noticed this or do you think it could be time to change the tubes considering the amount of time I use the amplifier???

Any advice would be great!

Stu

Please keep in mind that your gain settings also effect the volume. If you use lets say Ch2. with volume and gain at noon and Ch.3 with volume at noon but gain only 10 o'clock it will have less volume.

Hey,

Thanks for the reply! I am aware the gain will affect the volume but even with more gain on channel 3 the volume still needs to be higher than the other channels to keep them even. I'm not too sure if the amp has always been like this or whether i'll just need to get some new tubes???

Mine does the same thing, I was always under the impression that the compression of the channel was what caused the volume difference, Ch 2 is MUCH more percussive and punchy because it isnt being squashed down.

Thats my take on it anyway.

Thanks for the replies, appreciate it!!! How often would you change your tubes based on how often i'm using the amp? I haven't changed anything since I bought it.

Cheers!

Preamp tube don't have be changed very often. If they don't start getting microphonic you can use them many years. Poweramp tube should be changed earlier. In your and my case (playing two or three times a week at high volume) about every 2 years.

Don´t care abou that. If You would like to have less
compression, please sen me the amp.

Peter ;)

i need less compression on channel 3...

peter, can salwender do it? or would i have to send my vh4 to germany?
