Volume knob ?

Hello,

I tried different things with my 50W Einstein head today and noticed that the position of the volume knob of my channel 1 (not the master volume but the "channel" volume) had a real impact on the sound.
I kranked it up to 10 and noticed that the sound got richer with more harmonics... I think I'll let it in this setting now (10) !

Can someone explain what is the role of this knob ?
How does it interact with the EQ section ? How can we deal with it ?
Am I right ? is the sound more "rich" when volume knob at high settings, or are my hears tired ?

Thanks for your answer...

It controls the signal strength of the preamp, I believe. So you just mixed in more signal from the preamp relative to the lifting done by the power amp.

You can crank the master with the channel volume low as well. Different feel/response from the amp.

The volume knob also control the FX send level.

Thanks for your answers...
I will try to crank the master volume too

On my D-Moll I like my Volumes around 12:00 Noon and my Masters Lower (9:00 or so depending on venue).

I have all my drive pre-amp volumes dialed in at about 9:30 & then use the master. I find the drive channels can get a bit aggressive beyond that. To me, the pre-amp volume is more of a tone-shaping control.
The KT77 tubes are really round, warm & rich so I prefer to pump the master.

Pump the master?

Makes me sound like somebody's gimp.

To get the right amount of send level the distortion
channel volumes should be around 12 o clock.

Cheers,
Peter

Thanks for that, I'm gonna try to deal with volume and master...

Maybe you could help me on another question :
It seems that the 2nd mode of my channel 1 lacks of dynamic, presence, bite... when I switch from Mode 1 (or 3) to Mode 2 my sound becomes weak, lifeless... I tried to find the sweet spot between gain, volume to correct that but no results.

To solve this, I use to have a RC booster (pushing the volume and trebles).
I wondered if this could be solved by a change of preamp tube ?
But all Channel 1 modes sharing the same preamp tubes (V1 and V3 ?), I think that's not the solution... any idea ?

Thanks ! :)
