Has anyone tried the Vox Module with Celestion alnico blues or their clones?
please comment

The vox module has really got to me, like... way down deep in my soul

I am contemplating getting a AC30cc2x (with Lyle Caldwell Mods), a vox heritage Handwired AC30
OR an Egnater e2 setup with a vox or 2 vox modules and a 2x12 with Celestion alnico blues.

Help me out

Thanks

What power source would you use for the E2?

I'm not saying one power amp sounds more voxy than another, since most of the sound comes from the preamp's tonestack, I'm just curious.

BTW, the VX module has a hold on me too. It's one of the sweetest sounds I've heard anywhere.

I'm tempted to load a 2x12 with this pair of Weber Ceramic Blue's I have sitting here.

Good question, ill probably try it w/several options
Mod50, Seminar head, an old Green Altec class A handwired amp non tube.
then see the possibilities with either buying a rebel or renegade. I dunno........
or just get an AC30. but I am a heavey Eggie fan.

I really like the vox EF86 pentode (is that how its spelled?) chimey, top end swirly, bell like, crystal etc etc vibe and my celestion v30,s do sound great but its still very different than the alnico blues. I just dont think that the v30's are allowing that to happen the way its supposed to and I want to know if the vox module can really produce the EF86 sound.

I am still learning and trying to figure all this out.

Please do try it with the webers cause if it works then with the mod50 vox I have now (our churchs) the next step would be an Extension cab w blues in it. After that I will put together my next vox amp or vox module rig.

I use the vox module into a 2x12 cab with eminence red fangs. Poweramp is a peavey classic 50/50.

Sounds pretty awesome to me. Lots of chime.

I'm thinking of changing to greenbacks, though. I like 'em better with the SL and the DLX.

That sounds like a pretty cool combo. I have been wanting to try out a Red Fang.

Hey is that your dog in your Avatar? It looks a lot like my Irish Wolf Hound.

Yeah, that's my dog Zoey. She's a 90lb golden retriever mutt. Her mom was a pretty blue-blood retriever, but she's obviously got some other stuff in there, too. Methinks aerdale, with the terrier moustache and all. Best personality of any dog I've owned.

The red fangs are really nice. It's not quite a fair comparison, since the two cabs in which I'm comparing the speakers have are different construction. To be fair, I need to actually swap out the speakers and see what I think. Both are really nice speakers, but the reds are slightly brighter to me, but smoother at the same time. The GBs have a really nice woodiness that, to my ears, works really well with the marshall-esque sounds.

This photo doesn't show it much as I'd like, but your dog has a Wolf Hound mouth and nose BIG TIME. Here's Mulligan my 7 year old Wolfy. He is a small one. ;) 165 lbs and 32" inches from ground to shoulder. That's minimum for the breed.

Interesting about the Fangs. I really want something with Alnico mags. Needs to be able to handle the 50 watts though so Celestion Blues are out and too expensive anyway.

165 lbs. dog! He's gonna eat your Rebel!

Yea I know. He could pass it in his stool and not even feel it!

Good Lord that is a big dog! Zoey is plenty big enough for me at 90 lbs.

I think the Red Fangs are alnico; not sure what their power handling is though.
