Any lurking around? I picked up the new Tonelab ST to play around with through my Rokit 5 speakers. I wasn't sure i was going to keep it and i was already looking at other things like Revalver or Overloud, or maybe even, "gulp" a PODXT. But tonight I'm getting some real kickass sounds out of this thing. I know it's modeler and it is what it is, but for $200 it does a decent job at high gain tones.

I doubt the amp models are really that close to the real thing but it's at least nice to have choices. The ST is smaller than the LE but it's got a lot more models. I like the XTC model the best, but i have found that some models sound good with particular cabs. The VH4 model has a TON of low end.

I'm liking it, but i do wish it had the PC interface that the PODXT has. But whenever i think of that POD tone it just gives me a headache. :D

RandyVanSykes I believe still has his, always got killer tones from it. I like the vox stuff better than Line6 even though I still own a PODXT Pro, it is good enough and I am too lazy to sell shit.

It was Psychodave's and he had some killer presets created.

I had the LE for a while, and I thought it was a pretty nice unit. I got rid of it because it was overkill for me, and I had gas for an old Fender combo.

Funny that you bring that up. I have an LE and bought a set of KRK 5's this weekend. They sounded sweet with the LE but I felt like I might need more volume and I wanted to set up some presets for going direct live so I took them back the same day and bought a powered speaker instead.

I really like the LE but wish I was more of a tweaker. I get bored quickly when it comes to dialing in tones so I am not ever really completely satisfied.

I had an Axe-Fx Ultra, which was overkill for me so I looked into more modest modelers that would work with my Bose L1 system. I picked up an LE and wasn't too impressed, most likely due to the Ultra experience. I put the LE up for awhile (tried to sell it but the resale prices were less than half, so I boxed it up and kept it).

Now I have a few preamps, Tech 21 Character series pedals and tube combo amps and I'm getting a number of good tones. Eventually my plan is to AB my favorite tones from my other gear with the ToneLab LE and see how close I can get.

The last thing I did with the ToneLab is create basic presets for all the amp models with their matching / recommended cabinet, and set the controls to original or neutral settings - did this with the Ultra - great way to compare all the amp models against each other. The software package made this fast and easy. FWIW, I think the LE will be able to get close to the tones I'm after, but it will take some effort. I hope it works, because it will be a great option for me (which is why I bought it in the first place). Now if I had a week off work, with the family out of the house....

Thanks Scott...I've been using the Tonelab LE on smaller stages and situations were I need to go direct-to-soundman for years....I dig it and it has paid for itself many times by now.
For me it beats all the other lower priced units. The sounds in it are quite good, but the key feature for me is the VR Gain control that uses the tube....it just feels great playing it, it really feels like a cranked up amp.

Care to post a couple presets that you use? I just picked up a FRFR speaker and am looking for some starting points because I suck at tweaking.

I don't have the settings on the computer and couldn't remember everything from the top of my head. Also I use a P90 guitar almost all the time...for double coils I would maybe use the Modern Marshall amp.

From memory...AC30 (everything cranked, noise gate off presence 7.5) with the AC30 2x12 cab with the tube pedal distortion hitting it a bit with the tone turned up and some 350ms analog delay.
Output set to Ln2, post EQ set to...
bass +2.4
mid slope 1 +3.0
high -1.2

The new ST is a little different but from what i remember of the LE, it sounds the same. But the ST has 33 amp models, some of which are a waste though.

Alot of the speaker cab models in the LE are really bad....pretty well all the speakers sound like I'm holding a toilet paper tube to my ear. The best sounding one to me is the Vox AC30 Celestion Blue 2x12 cab...well it's a Vox unit, so I guess it figures they'd make they're stuff sound the best in the Tonelab.

If the ST had four stomp buttons for user presets I'd grab it...always looking for a smaller gigging rig.

I had the same experience. I had my LE on Craigslist for a while at $200 (bought it new for $400) and didn't get a single inquiry. I ended up trading it in for $125

Yes. I figured for around $100 resale (I paid $320 new with shipping from an overstocked dealer on ebay), its worth keeping. I'll get around to AB'ing it with my other gear to get a set of usable presets.

Now that I have a real Vox AC15 (AC15H1TV), Marshall JMP-1 and the Tech 21 Character Series Liverpool and British, I have several good tones to try to match with the LE. I think I didn't spend enough time with the LE to learn how to use it or get the best out of it, so I'm really happy I kept it; if it works well, it is the perfect form for me. Now I have a Nova System on the way that I plan to use in front of my Fender Deco Tone (a custom blues jr.) which will delay my LE tweaking. I may have a few pedals to sell soon though!

I have an LE, I use it for some recording, I mostly use it for some of the nice cleans with some reverb and trem direct. The gain patches are ok, but I prefer amps with mikes :D
