Ok so I want to tighten Hagen up more punch , more clean gain. Would 6L6 tubes do this ?

Oh yes right now the Ruby EL34 tubes are in it. Ruby preamp tubes also.

I use gold lion kt77, have more even response throughout the freq. range, will lose some of the rasp that el34 does but feels more articulate. I think 6l6 will lead in that direction but have not tried then in this application. Also the cab and its drivers will have a huge impact. Sealed interior space with proper ply and a well constructed cab is not to be over looked. Now drivers, make a huge difference. Do something along the lines of ev bls. Enjoyed 6x12 cab with bottom 2x12 sealed enclosure it rocks hard for tightness and just slays for detunages. Also consider porting the bottom enclosure or long throw design the enclosure. Lots of fun.

I don't like evh cab. Rl w100 should be well...... Ok
Pre 's will help. Tried about 70 diff. Pres before settling in
Trial and error, be prepared to spend a few hours, but worth the effort.

If I put 6L6 in what's bias. N were is bias pots. Nothing in manual.

Another option is good outboard eq and/compressor/limiter but not the cheap crap. But this will change the amp. This than becomes more involved, we can even take it further with adding other output gear and or combinations of. Depends where u want to take it to and it's application. Fun stuff

I thought my Hagen was tight till I put it next to the Dar fbm tonight. I am real simple. I like my amp to give me what I want wo outboard gear. Now I believe my Herbert was tighter than Hagen. 6L6 are usually tighter aren't they? I have a bunch of diff brand preamp tubes I can try.

I have seen your post on the main forum ;)

I can build amps that are much more tight and fast for heavy riffing
but I would miss the tone on this circuit.

Please send my some pictures from the inside of your Hagen to:

peterdiezel (at) diezelamplification (dot) com

I will see what we can do on your Hagen.

Best,
Peter

VH4 is the tightest IMHO.
The love of the Hagen for me is that it is a bit greasy...not overly tight. That's the beauty of it.

Good luck with everything :)

I just changed tubes n new preamp tubes. I do believe my tubes were tired?

How do I bias ... On those two white lil pots on circuit board? I have that thing you put in tube socket n plug into multimeter I bought from euro tubes.

I've got kt77 n 6L6 n el34

Tried each. Real quick.

i can walk u through it, better idea to do over the phone. tech support style hahahah
